Emmerdale's PC Swirling fights tears as he finds out Rishi has died
Emmerdale’s PC Swirling (Andy Moore) was all of us when he found out about Rishi Sharma’s (Bhasker Patel) death, struggling to fight back tears as he offered his sympathies to Jai (Chris Bisson).
The policeman arrived at Holdgate on Friday (July 28) after being notified of Rishi’s tragic passing by Suni (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana), who returned home to find Jai holding his dad’s body close in a heart wrenching moment.
‘Jai, I’m so sorry for your loss’, said Swirling, evidently shaken by the news. ‘I liked your dad a lot’.
We’re not sobbing, we promise.
Swirling made his way inside the property and approached a solemn Jai, who was attempting to process his dad’s passing, asking him a few questions as part of police procedure, hoping to establish what exactly led to Rishi’s demise.
Jai made it clear that Rishi was at the bottom of the stairs when he arrived at Holdgate and that he hadn’t moved him, adding that there was ‘no blood’ at the scene.
This prompted the policeman to ask the grieving son what his dad was like when they last spoke, which led to Jai reveal that they’d had a row on his wedding day and that they’ll never be able to make things right in this lifetime.
The news came as a blow to Swirling, who was clearly heartbroken for Jai’s loss, as he placed a consoling hand on him, offering him the support he required in his hour of need.

Rishi, as viewers know, died on Thursday (July 27), with the closing moments of the episode in question seeing the patriarch lifeless on the floor, dressed in his suit, clearly having been on his way to his son’s wedding.
Bhasker Patel, who played the character for 12 years, subsequently confirmed his exit, informing fans that he will miss the role very much.
Emmerdale continues Monday July 31 at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
