Emotional Ruth Langsford walks out of This Morning as mental health segment triggers memories of her late sister
Emotional Ruth Langsford today walked off set after a segment on the show triggered sad memories of her late sister.
Ruth's beloved elder sister Julia passed away in June after a long battle with her mental health and a phone-in on anxiety was suddenly too much for the star to bear.
As one viewer called Michelle described her on-going battle with anxiety to This Morning's medical expert Angela, 59-year-old Ruth quietly disappeared backstage.
She had congratulated the caller for being brave enough to ring into the show but then slipped off.
Once the phone call had finished, her husband and co-host Eamonn Holmes explained to viewers what had happened.
He said: "Obviously this is featured in Ruth's life, she's upset now and had to leave the studio because of her sister who was a chronic depressive.
"No matter what sort of help and medications, they didn't seem to make much difference, there were good times and bad times."
Once the segment had finished and before the show cut to the break, he added: "These things are very raw for her following the death of her sister."
Ruth returned to the show after the commercials and had appeared to be crying off set.
Eamonn then said: "Here we go again…we've got Phil Vickery in the kitchen.."
Smiling bravely at the show's chef, Ruth said: "Is he making me a nice apple crumble?"
My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken. She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever. As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding.

Ruth's sister Julia Johnson was found dead at home in June.
The This Morning and Loose Women star was “distraught” after she received the shock news and cancelled all her immediate TV appearances.
Writing on Twitter at the time, she said: "My lovely sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken.
"She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever.
"As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding."
Landscape gardener Julia, who lived in Surrey with husband Paul and daughter Katie, 35, had spoken publicly about her battle with the illness and revealed how supportive Ruth had been, letting her stay at her home and helping with her confidence.
Speaking in an interview in 2010, Julia said: “Ruth has been really supportive. I’d phone her in tears and go stay with her.
"She encourages me to have more confidence in myself and when I’m trying to do too much she has taught me to say no and look after myself a bit more. She’s the best sister anyone could have.”
