THE Fall Of The House Of Usher creator has responded to fans of the show who have complained about a gruesome scene which included harrowing animal cruelty. 

A particular moment in the Netflix horror series has upset and enraged many viewers who have questioned 'who hates cats’ behind the scenes.


The Fall Of The House Of Usher has no shortage of gruesome deaths, but one in particular has left fans fuming and demanding answers.

The Netflix series is based on Edgar Allen Poe's 1839 short story of the same name and follows Roderick Usher, a corrupt CEO of a pharmaceutical company, played by Thirteen Days star Bruce Greenwood.

The gothic TV miniseries stars Carla Gugino, Mark Hamill, Kate Siegel and Bruce Greenwood and follows Roderick Usher, a corrupt CEO of a pharmaceutical company, played by Thirteen Days star Bruce Greenwood and his children.

Two of the siblings look into securing their future and building a family dynasty before the heirs start dropping dead one by one.

Creator Mike Flanagan, who previously directed The Haunting Of Hill House and The Haunting Of Bly Manor, is often heavily inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's work, which he re-created in a gothic horror style.

After the demise of Pluto, the cat viewers were outraged, leading Mike to reveal a detail that many viewers missed.

Taking to  X(Twitter) one user quizzed the director and penned: "WHAT DID CATS EVER DO TO YOU???"

Mike replied: "Okay. So… The Black Cat was written by Edgar Allan Poe. In HIS version, a cat is killed. In MY version, the cat is… (spoilers)…"

He continued: "In MY version, the killing of the cat is revealed to be a hallucination. In MY version, the cat is alive and well. So, who hates cats?"

Another fan then chimed in to ask for clarification from the director about when the revelation about Pluto's death being a hallucination will happen.

Mike insisted: "That's why we made such a big deal about the fact that Pluto was wearing a Gucci collar, and the new cat was not.

"Look at the cat in the final shot of the episode, who is wearing the collar… and the empty bathtub, which means ALL of the animal violence was imagined."

Another fan then chimed in to ask for clarification from the director about when the revelation about Pluto's death being a hallucination will happen.

Another followed it with: "I'm watching The Fall of the House of Usher, and couldn't anyone warn me about the cat scenes?!?!"

A third person warned: "Um, if you plan on watching The Fall of the House of Usher, then I wanna mention that so far from what I've seen, there's quite a few scenes of graphic animal cruelty, especially in episode 4, which involves a cat. IDK if that's something that upsets you, but if it is, be aware."

The director's shows are famous for their dark, twisted horror, terrifying jump scares, and the integration of gothic elements from the author's oeuvre – including the deaths.
