Flesh and Blood ITV: Mark accidentally killed as his murderous plan for Vivien backfires?

Flesh and Blood was back on ITV with the penultimate episode, and in the last ten seconds of the instalment, viewers were sent into a frenzy as Mark (Stephen Rea) was seemingly punched by Jake (Russell Tovey). Combining this with a theory, it seems the Vivien (Francesca Annis) and nosey neighbour Mary (Imelda Staunton) are not the victim or the culprit.

Since the drama first began, those watching at home were convinced Mary was up to no good, and it would be Vivien who was left for dead.

However, tonight, several clues were dropped and it seems Mark’s plan to kill Vivien will backfire and it will be his body who is found on the beach.

Scenes showed Mark pack his suitcase ready for their six-week trip to India, and while doing so, a first aid kit was amongst his belongings.

Perhaps not surprising for a doctor to be carrying provisions, but it was the small bottle of suspicious looking liquid which he picked up afterwards which raised eyebrows.

To make matters worse, Vivien and Mark visited a solicitors together, Stella’s (Sharon Small) law firm to be precise.

Following their meeting, Sharon rang Jake to tell him what she had just found out; the cause of death for Mark’s first wife – a self administered overdose.

Understandably, Jake flew into panic mode thinking the worse was going to happen to his own mother, and this seemed to be true as when Vivien returned from a stroll along the shore, Mark made her a drink.

Viewers saw ice go into the glass first, followed by a healthy slug of gin and then topped with tonic water and a slice of lemon.

All while the small bottle of suspicious liquid sat on the shelf behind.

Walking out onto the balcony, he handed Vivien her drink and she tentatively sipped it while Mark watched on.

“I’ll leave you be for a few minutes on your own,” he stated before leaving her to go inside alone.

“What is that tiny bottle of liquid?!Oh holy c**p #FleshAndBlood,” one viewer wrote on Twitter while another simply said: “Injection vial … #FleshAndBlood.”

Perhaps Mark didn’t take this opportunity to poison her drink, but instead was waiting until her birthday party to do so and then he would be able to frame someone else for it – Mary or one of her children perhaps.

In the final scene, Jake was seen in present day, being questioned by a police officer.

He was asked about the bruise on his knuckle and Jake produced a half-hearted lie to get the detective off his case.

But this was followed by a flash forward to tomorrow night’s finale which saw everyone gather for Vivien’s birthday bash.

Out on the terrace, it seems Mark punched Jake, is this because he found out about his plan to kill Vivien?

Perhaps there is an even bigger plot twist to this.

Someone wrote on Twitter: “OK – now you may think I’m crazy but I think it’s actually Vivien who is the baddie. And I think I know why. So there you go. We’ll know soon enough.

  • Flesh and Blood ITV: Mary revealed as the murderer already?

“She is setting up Mary – could be the affair but I think that she is sick of Mary there every time she opens the door. I’m sure Vivien knows Mary is viewing her mail, using her stuff etc. You just would. Mary is virtually a live in stalker and I don’t think Vivien wants to move.”

However, someone else theorised: “I bet Mark goes to overdose Vivienne’s drink, Mary swaps them and Mark ends up in hospital #fleshandblood.”

I reckon it’s Mark who’s had the accident. #FleshAndBlood,” another suggested.

There is even a chance the victim’s death was foreshadowed earlier in the episode when Vivien and Mark walked along the cliffs edge.

Is this how the body ends up on the beach?

Flesh and Blood returns to ITV tomorrow night at 9pm.
