Game of Thrones cancelled – has the prequel series Bloodmoon been axed?
SEVEN hells – the highly-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series, Bloodmoon, has been cancelled.
But fear not, HBO is still bringing a prequel to screens and it is titled House of The Dragon. Here's all we know…
Has Game of Thrones Bloodmon been cancelled?
Yep – HBO has binned the show Bloodmoon, which filmed a pilot this summer.
A source told Hollywood Reporter that the network was not happy and asked for multiple edits of the footage before it was scrapped.
Bloodmoon was headed by Jane Goldman, who is married to Jonathan Ross, and starred the likes of Naomi Watts.
The story would have been set 5,000 years before Game Of Thrones and was due to focus on the "Age of Heroes".
An official HBO synopsis said the series would tell the story of "the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour."
Another section added: "Only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend — it's not the story we think we know."
It was believed that this story would have featured fabled characters including Brann the Builder who made the Wall and House Lanister founder Lann the Clever.
The cast list included Miranda Richardson, Joshua Whitehouse, Marquis Rodrigez and others.
What is Game of Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon about?
The good news is that HBO has released details about House Of The Dragon which will follow the Targaryen kings 300 years before the first GOT episode.
A tweet from the TV network showed a picture of the Targaryen House sigil – a three headed dragon – in blood red..
The show, which has been co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, carried the caption "fire will reign".
The Hollywood Reporter revealed: "The series is said to focus on the reign of Targaryen kings in the lead-up to the events of Game of Thrones."
They added that the series will be "aligning the vision of the project more closely."
Martin and Condal will work alongside co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik for the initial 10 instalments of the series.
He will direct the pilot and others after his success working with the Game Of Thrones team on episodes like Battle of the B*****ds and the Battle of Winterfell.
