Gavin and Stacey cast get cosy in first official Christmas special photo
The cast of Gavin and Stacey are back together for the first time in 10 years ahead of the Christmas special.
Mat Horne and Joanna Page are in character as Gavin and Stacey with their families gathered together for a festive drink at the pub.
The couple are clearly more loved up than ever as Stacey sits on Gavin’s lap with his arms gently placed around her waist.
Smithy (James Corden) and Nessa (Ruth Jones) are sat next to them, with Nessa wearing another iconic statement outfit and her trademark scowl.
Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman also appear as Bryn, Mick and Pam respectively.
The image was revealed as the BBC announced its line-up of festive shows over the coming weeks.
James and Ruth, who write the comedy together, recently admitted that they were worried about the special episode because the first draft of the script ‘just wasn’t good enough’.
Ruth had secretly flown out to James’ home in Los Angeles to get cracking on the screenplay.
‘We’d written about 40 pages, and we sat and we read it […] and we both went “this just isn’t good enough. It doesn’t feel like the show. It doesn’t feel like it’s right”, James told The Radio Times.
He continued: ‘We went round and round, and it was probably about midnight – Ruth here with her laptop, me pacing around – and as soon as we had let it go, an idea arrived, maybe the quickest scene we have ever written, really. And as soon as that scene was finished, we had no choice. We said, “well now we have to make it”.’
Gavin and Stacey fans were treated to a first look at the Christmas Special on BBC iPlayer, which revealed Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) in full-on meltdown mode right at the end of season three’s final episode. With a million dishes on the go and a tight schedule that no one’s sticking to, Bryn, who’s never exactly been one to handle the pressure of any situation, is running ragged around the kitchen.
Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special airs Christmas Day on BBC One.
