Gemma Collins opens up on 'heartbreaking' secret miscarriage during lockdown
Gemma Collins opened up about suffering a miscarriage during lockdown.
The Towie star – who has had a rollercoaster relationship with James Argent – appeared on Loose Women to discuss her battles with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, when she revealed her secret heartache.
Speaking to the panel, the 39-year-old began: ‘It’s not easy to fall pregnant, I did suffer a miscarriage which was really sad, during the lockdown period.
‘With PCOS, I have suffered with it for the last 10 years. I start to gain weight when I was 28, my periods were all over the place.
‘I’ve suffered miscarriages.’
Gemma did not give any further details on who the father of her baby was.
Following a series of technical issues, she continued: ‘Behind the smiles there has been a lot of pain. I did go through a very sad miscarriage in lockdown, and due to PCOS, I thought I was having an usually heavy period.
‘When you are a sufferer of PCOS, it’s something that can happen. I actually left it 10 days, but I can remember thinking the month before, “My boobs seem really perky”.’
Gemma explained the bleeding lasted 10 days, and it was then that she realised it wasn’t like a ‘usual period’ – but instead was a lot heavier.
The reality star was going through 10 heavy sanitary towels a day when she showed them to her sister-in-law, and was then told by her doctor that she needed to go straight to hospital.
‘It was very sad, but it does make me realise that potentially there is hope there in the future,’ she said.
‘I pray every night that everything’s going to work out for me,’ she explained, lifting the lid on her ‘heartbreaking personal life’.
‘Having a miscarriage with someone you love very much was very heartbreaking.’
Gemma also revealed she had considered other routes into motherhood, including adoption or surrogacy.
’If I have to go down that route, I will do it. I’ve got no qualms in that. I do want a baby and I will have a baby,’ she insisted.
‘I want to feel motherhood. I look at my nephew Hayden and I love him like my own, but I’ve not had the experience of being a full-time mum.
‘I don’t want that robbed from me in my life, that would be a travesty.’
Gemma added: ’But there’s so many good options out there, like adoption. Madonna’s done it, Angelina Jolie, the GC could be next.
‘I do hold onto that dream that I will be able to conceive naturally and be a mum, and give all the love.’
Loose Women continues on weekdays, at 12.30, on ITV.
