Gogglebox stars Steph and Dom Parker’s posh hotel crashed with debts of almost £2million
GOGGLEBOX stars and Dom and Steph Parker's posh hotel crashed with debts of almost £2million.
The Sun told how £5million pile The Salutation shut its doors in January with 33 workers sent home.
Now the scale of the hotel’s financial woes has been laid bare by administrators called in to salvage cash from the firm’s coffers.
A report by liquidators sent to Companies House shows monster debts of £1.8million.
Number crunchers said the hotel had assets worth just £10,917 – including £1,771 in cash, £1,700 in stock like booze and £6,300 in catering equipment.
Debts included £1.4million owed to “investors”, £88,000 to the taxman, £114,000 in staff wages and the rest owed to dozens of creditors for supplying food, drink and services to the hotel.
Wine-swilling telly stars Dom and Steph had leased the venue – in historic Sandwich in Kent – to John and Dorothy Fothergill.
The Salutation has been a huge part of Steph and Dom’s fame.
If featured on Channel 4’s B&B show Four In A Bed, which they appeared in before Gogglebox in 2013.
The fun-loving duo went on to become the most popular members of the original Gogglebox cast, before they pursued other TV projects.
In 2017, they fronted 30 episodes of ‘Steph And Dom’s 1 Star to Five Star for Channel 4, using their experience as hoteliers to help turn around B&B’s across the UK.
The couple’s new show for C4 ‘The Great Hotel Escape’ is due to be shown later this year.
Steph and Dom have owned the listed Edwin Lutyens-designed, Grade 1-listed mansion in 3.7acres since 2004.
Dom, 55, has told how the couple wanted to sell it.
He admitted: "We are just too old and exhausted and don't have the energy to run it anymore."
The Salutation became a hotel in 2017 on the back of Gogglebox's popularity.
Its restaurant was run by Michelin-starred chef Shane Hughes, 43, while the gardening team won gold at the 2016 Chelsea Flower Show.
Many guests booked in just so they could be close to booze-loving Dom and Steph – and the couple often stayed up all night drinking with customers when they were at the helm.
The couple, who now live in London with daughter Honor, 16, son Max, 19, and dachshund GiGi, were contacted for comment last night.
TV’s Dom Parker told The Sun: “We still own the Salutation.
“Leaseholders John and Dorothy Fothergill are responsible for all the debts.
“We are very sorry they were unable to make a success of it.
“Negotiations are under way to re-lease or sell the property and we hope it is soon restored to its former glory.”
