Great British Bake Off's Hermine leads stars shutting down hate for Laura

Great British Bake Off’s Hermine has told fans ‘not to be unkind in her name’ following her exit from the tent last night.

After the controversial decision by the judges during patisserie week, viewers of the show lashed out on Twitter saying that Hermine deserved to stay – taking aim at fellow baker Laura in the process, who went through.

But the London accountant – and a lot of former Bake Off stars – aren’t having it, and have flocked to show their love for Laura who had to remind viewers that it wasn’t her fault Hermine was eliminated.

Speaking on Instagram, Hermine posted a message that read: ‘Please don’t be unkind in my name. I am all about love and kindness. Honour my time in the GBBO by showing love and kindness.

‘Behind what looks like characters on your tele are real people. Love.’

She followed it up with a stark statement on mental health and how cyberbullying could have a massive impact on the wellbeing of others.

‘Mental health is real!!! Don’t be the reason why someone ended their life,’ she wrote. ‘This is a strong sentence but real! It happens all the time. So let’s talk about it.

‘When our emotions get the best out of us, we can sometimes be unkind. It is important to take a moment to acknowledge your emotions, know that they are there and be aware of what they are just about to make you say or do.

‘Know that you are in control of your emotions and not the other way round. Choose right over wrong. Take a moment to read through what you have wrote before pressing send.’

‘Ask yourself if you would like to be at the receiving end of it and how it will make you feel if you were,’ she continued. ‘I am not even pointing a finger because we are all guilty at some point in life of passing comments that we think very little about.

‘Please let’s make a conscious and collective effort to stop cyberbullying. We can do this. Together!!! ONE MESSAGE AT A TIME.’

Great British Bake Off stars past and present backed Hermine up – and sent their support for Laura as they did so

Laura has now made it through to the final three, and will be putting in her best efforts for the final bakes next Tuesday.

She will be competing against Dave and Peter for a chance at joining the Bake Off Hall of Fame.

The series, which was filmed earlier this summer, saw Hermine sent packing after a series of disasters during her showstopper, with Prue saying that, by her standards, ‘was a failure’.

But with a sweet goodbye note and a heartfelt message, Hermine said: ‘When I go home and I have time to reflect, there will be a lot of happy memories.’

Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
