Here’s What You Need to Know About ‘Looking for Alaska’ Season 2

Never say never, am I right? At least when it comes to the question, “Will there be a second season of Looking for Alaska on Hulu?” The new series is an adaptation of John Green’s first novel of the same name—you probably devoured it in middle school, but you may know John better as the author of The Fault in Our Stars or Paper Towns.

While the original story follows a young Miles “Pudge” Halter as he navigates friendships, pranks, and trauma at an Alabama boarding school, Hulu’s Looking for Alaska was able to broaden its scope, digging into the entire group of teens as they bond, get into trouble, and face a brutal tragedy. No spoilers though! Hulu just dropped all eight episodes of the 2005-based drama starring Kristine Froseth and Charlie Plummer today.

Although the book has a pretty solid conclusion, it’s not like Hulu doesn’t have a history of keeping a story going well beyond its original ending. The Handmaid’s Tale is heading into season 4, after all.

Still, John, who had a big hand in producing the series, doesn’t really seem that into the idea. When asked about season 2 during a 2018 Reddit AMA, he responded, “I would not be super interested in participating. (I also think it’s very unlikely).” But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t thought about it. “But one shouldn’t say never. Who knows. Maybe season 2 would be the story of Pudge joining a ninth-tier English soccer team called AFC Wimbledon that’s just beginning to work their way up through the leagues in what will within nine years be the greatest comeback story in the history of sports.”

For some reason, I don’t think that’s what executive producers Josh Schwartz (Gossip Girl, The O.C.) and Stephanie Savage (also Gossip Girl, The O.C.) would have in mind….For now, Looking for Alaska is being described as a limited series, so don’t get your hopes up too high for any more Culver Creek shenanigans.
