Holly Willoughby and Phil Schofield can't stop laughing hysterically in chat with This Morning guest who bought a clown to his redundancy meeting

HOLLY Willoughby and Phillip Schofield couldn't stop laughing at the This Morning guest who brought a clown into his redundancy meeting.

The presenters struggled to control their giggles while chatting to Josh Thompson in New Zealand, who forked out £100 for a clown to accompany him in a dismissal meeting with ad firm bosses last week to keep his "spirits high".

Speaking on the programme, the ex-advertising exec said: "I thought best to prepare for the worst. I didn't get the best vibe, it was a pretty serious tone.

"I thought the news was going to be quite bad, and I thought if it's going to be bad news best to get a professional in.

"I would usually go with friends or family, but my mum can't even juggle so I thought it best to get in Joe to keep my spirits high. "

But Phil, 57, couldn't keep a straight faced and covered his face with his hands in a bid to compose himself.

Asked how his colleagues reacted, Josh – who was accompanied by clown Joe on the ITV day time show – continued: "I think they were a little taken aback at first.

"When Joe whipped out the balloons and started doing his thing, there were smiles all round.  He is very good at what he does. He was $200 and they got him for free."

During the chat Joe made balloon animals before he plucked out a ready made dog from his hat.

Phil and Holly, 38, continued to get the giggles as they were distracted by the noise as Joe showed off his talents.

The pair rolled up in hysterics once more as Joe showed off his mullet-style haircut.

He interrupted: "This has happened at the worst time. I just got a glimpse of that hair cut, it's the worst one I've ever gotten.

"It's the official haircut of the jobless", which left the presenting duo beaming.

Later in the segment Joe pulled out a framed photo of Phil, much to his surprise.

The host said: "I started my career in New Zealand. I must have left it there."

The witty worker, who is also a stand up comedian, has now landed a new job at a rival firm.
