How long have Barbara Windsor and Scott Mitchell been married?
Ross Kemp has revealed he was left heartbroken after his former screen mum Dame Barbara Windsor failed to recognise him – with her Alzheimer’s battle serving as the inspiration for his newest documentary.
Speaking on his documentary Ross Kemp: Living With Dementia, the 55-year-old who played Grant Mitchell, described his emotional reunion with the soap legend.
‘When I arrived, she greeted me with a hug, as one of her closest friends.
‘Barbara was my TV mum on EastEnders and is hilariously funny and vivacious, with a rapier wit — we’ve always had a giggle, on and off set. But now she clearly has no idea who I am.’
The actress inspired the programme due to Ross’ close friendship with her and her husband Scott Mitchell – who also featured in the documentary and who is Dame Barbara’s primary caregiver.
Today, Ross Kemp is due to appear on Good Morning Britain to talk about the couple and the fact that he believes Dame Barbara should be moved to a care home.

Dame Barbara Windsor and Ross Kemp played mother and son Peggy and Grant Mitchell in EastEnders, appearing on and off for over 20 years.
Ross first joined the soap in 1990, while Dame Barbara took over the role of Peggy Mitchell – who was landlady of the Queen Vic – from actress Jo Warne, who played the character for 10 episodes in 1991.
She joined the soap in 1994 and left in 2010 after Phil (Steve McFadden), who was battling a drug addiction at the time, set fire to the Queen Vic.
She returned for various storylines between 2013 and 2016, leaving when the character, who had suffered a recurrence of breast cancer which was terminal, took her own life rather than become incapacitated by the disease.
Grant, meanwhile, was a regular face in Walford from 1990-1999, returning again from 2005-2006 and once more in 2016 for a storyline which tied in with Peggy’s death.
Ross Kemp: Living With Dementia is on ITV on Thursday night at 7.30pm.
