I’m A Celeb’s Ruthie Henshall admits Prince Edward comments were ‘crass’
I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Ruthie Henshall has admitted she's learnt her lesson after speaking about her love life on the ITV show.
The 53-year-old theatre actress was stunned when she was evicted from the ITV show on Sunday night and realised her comments had been aired.
Her revelation came when her fellow campmates were telling their stories about visiting the Queen's home – before Ruthie remarked to Shane Richie: "You [Russell Watson] performed in Buckingham Palace, you sang in the gardens, I s*****d in the bedrooms."
Speaking to the former EastEnders star, the West End actress said: "Lovely bloke. And I genuinely fell in love with him."
Ruthie revealed that Prince Edward was "a production assistant at Andrew Lloyd Webber's [theatre]", becoming her point of contact after getting the lead role in A Star Is Born.
She added: "He [Edward] was the one who'd call me up and say you're rehearsing at 2 o'clock or whatever.
"And he said to me 'would you like to come to mine and watch the film of A Star Is Born with me and you can have some dinner'."
Ruthie ended up spending the weekend with the Prince in Windsor, where she also met his mother, The Queen, along with Princess Margaret, Prince Charles, The Queen Mother and Princess Diana.
Speaking via video link on ITV's Lorraine on Monday morning, Ruthie looked rather sheepish as she described her comments as "crass".
"I only said it to make Shane laugh," she told Lorraine Kelly. "I had no idea that it would actually go out, I have learnt my lesson."
However, viewers at home weren't convinced and were quick to tweet about her comments.
"Everyone knows there are microphones in there #lorraine," one person tweeted.
A second posted: "Yeah, right like you “didn’t know” of the microphones about Ruthie #lorraine."
A third viewer added: "Jeez – enough of the pained expression Ruthie. So sincere. #Lorraine."
Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 9am
