Inception connection in Tenet? John David Washington finally SPEAKS OUT

When the first images and trailer for Tenet released last year, Christopher Nolan fans couldn’t help comparing what they saw to Inception. The 2010 sci-fi thriller featured Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy’s characters diving through levels of dreams, with time moving faster the deeper they went. Now spy movie Tenet teases another take on time in the form of inversion, but is it connected to Inception some how?

Tenet star John David Washington told Esquire: “I’d say [Tenet] is an in-law to Inception…

He joked: “They’re related by marriage.

“They get together for Thanksgivings, family barbecues, like that kind of thing.

“Other than that, one lives in Europe, the other one lives in Compton.”

Of course, Washington was joking, but could he be covering for a true connection?

Maybe, the world of Tenet is in dreams again, but this time the characters can move in the direction of the past within each one.

Whatever the case, the star of the mysterious movie is right behind Nolan’s vision.

The 35-year-old told the outlet of his physically challenging role: “There were some times I couldn’t get up out of bed.”

Washington continued: “[Even] a couple weeks in, I was worried.

“Very concerned I wasn’t going to be able to finish this thing, and I didn’t want to tell anybody because I was like, ‘Oh, I will die for this…’

“This film deserves it.

“Even if I break something, I am not going to say nothing to nobody until this thing gets done.”

Interestingly, Washington’s character is currently only known as The Protagonist.

Tenet’s official synopsis reads: “John David Washington is the new protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle Tenet.

“Armed with only one word – Tenet – and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real-time.

“Not time travel. Inversion.”

Despite the pandemic, Warner Bros have stood their ground and not delayed Tenet’s July release.

With UK cinemas expected to reopen from July 4, the Christopher Nolan movie will be the first big release to lead the charge back to normality.

Disney’s Mulan is also still expected to release on July 24, a week later and other studios are watching eagerly to see how both films do at the box office.

Tenet is released in UK cinemas on July 17, 2020.
