Is a Game of Thrones season 8 remake happening? The fan petition has topped one million signatures

DISGRUNTLED Game of Thrones fans called for the show to be rewritten and redone by HBO in order to get the final season they believe it deserves.

Many viewers were left disappointed by the show's unexpected finale, and demanded the fantasy production is remade to change the ending in a petition that has received over one million signatures. But will Season 8 really be remade?

Is a Game of Thrones season 8 remake happening?

Some disappointed fans of Game of Thrones are demanding Season 8 be remade.

But there has been no word of a remake from the show's bosses.

A petition making the demand has now topped 1.7 million signatures.

After the penultimate episode of the final series aired, a fan, named Dylan D, started the petition on Change.org asking HBO to remake the entirety of season 8 with new writers.

The petition is called "Remake Game of Thrones season 8 with competent writers".

It says: "David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.

"This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!"

But Dylan didn't enlighten his readers as to what part of the plot exactly had made him so angry that he was rallied into action to start the petition.

Since the final episode aired on Sunday, May 19, the petition has racked up even more signatures, as it has now been signed by one million people.

Why are fans so disgruntled by season 8 of Game of Thrones?

Since Game of Thrones is a show that elicits a lot of passion amongst its followers, perhaps it's not so surprising fans have been so divided.

Or indeed, that they haven't held back from expressing their very zealous opinions online.

And some fans were certainly eager to air their feelings after the penultimate episode of the final season hit our screens, as it picked up its worst-ever rating.

The show favourite Daenerys went on a murderous rampage around King's Landing despite the city surrendering, with one viewer tweeting: "Well that was f***ing terrible."

Rating site Rotten Tomatoes gave the episode, titled The Bells, a 49 per cent rating – the lowest-rated in the show's history.

And viewers took to social media to blast the turn of events that saw Daenerys become the "Mad Queen."

One slammed the episode as "disappointing" saying: "The writing behind Daenerys’ actions felt sexist and nonsensical."

Another complained that it wasn't up to the standard of previous series, insisting there had been "a lot of character development thrown out the window".

A third simply asked: "Remember when game of thrones had good writing?"

The disappointed feeling did not go away after the final aired, as many were left furious over a plot twist that saw Jon Snow kill Daenerys in the finale.

What has George RR Martin said?

While fans aren't very happy with Game of Thrones season 8, the author of the books is standing by the show's writers.

As George RR Martin hasn't yet penned the last book in the series, fans had speculated Martin may decide to take his novel in another direction given how unpopular the new series has been.

However, he has spoken out to say otherwise. He said: "I don’t think [Game of Thrones show-runners] Dan and Dave’s ending is gonna be that different from my ending because of the conversations we did have.

"We’re talking here about several days of story conferences taking place in my home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. But there’s no way to get in all the detail, all the minor characters, all the secondary characters.

“The series has been extremely faithful compared to 97 per cent of all television and movie adaptations of literary properties.

“But it’s not completely faithful. And it can’t be.

“Otherwise, it would have to run another five seasons.”

Does everyone die in Game of Thrones season 8?

The final ever episode of Game of Thrones which was aired on May 19 left fans stunned by the plot twist, which saw Jon Snow kill Daenerys Targaryen.

But Jon Snow – played by Kit Harington – was not killed off.

On The Late Late Show actor Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, previously teased that the famous phrase "Valar Morghuli" (which means "All men must die") could be the key to the show's ending.

He said: "We're all going to die. Don't forget 'Valar Morghulis,' which is one of the phrases on the show and means 'all men must die'".

Were there multiple endings filmed for season 8 of Game of Thrones?

Yes, Game of Thrones bosses filmed multiple endings for the cult fantasy drama’s big series finale to prevent key plot details leaking online. 

The secrecy surrounding the series’ ending was taken to a whole new level.

Producers have even kept cast members in the dark about which characters live or die.

Talking to Vulture, Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, revealed that they also shot fake scenes.

She said: "We shoot fake scenes. We got into costume in Croatia because we know the paparazzi lurk around there, so we would spend like half a day doing nothing."

Kit Harington admitted that he cried when he read the final script, and also revealed that there was a secret episode of the show that will never air.

He revealed: "They say, if I ever p**s them off too much, they'll release it on YouTube.

"Every now and then, they send me a screengrab, just as a threat."

Though, the latest leak ended up coming true so the plan to throw fans off didn't work out like they had hoped.
