Jeremy Clarkson takes swipe at Grand Tour co-host on Who Wants to be a Millionaire return

Who Wants to be a Millionaire was back on ITV tonight as Jeremy Clarkson welcomed a number of hopeful quizzers onto the show in the hopes of pocketing some serious cash. Jeremy, who also presents The Grand Tour with James May and Richard Hammond, was full of his typical one-liners and hilarious putdowns, including one aimed at Richard.

The jibe came during contestant Jen Sheriff’s attempt at pocketing £1million on the ITV show.

Jen sailed through the fastest finger round, landing herself opposite Jeremy by recording her answers in a rapid 3.85 seconds.

The Who Wants to be a Millionaire player was equally as fast when delivering her answers in the opening few questions.

So much so, Jeremy couldn’t help comment on her pace and draw a comparison with former Top Gear host, Richard.

Jeremy asked Jen: “The man who became King of the Scots in 1306 is known by the name ‘Robert the …’ what?”

The possible options were A) Bruce, B) Barry, C) Bruno or D) Bernard.

Wasting no time, Jen answered: “That is Bruce, final answer.”

Jeremy then quipped: “Right again, £300,” as the crowd applauded.

As the celebrations quietened down, Jeremy complimented Jen on her speedy approach.

He said: “Whizzing through these as fast as Richard Hammond on a mountain road,”

However, he couldn’t help taking a swipe at his co-host by adding: “Let’s hope without the inevitable crash at the end.”

The joke brought murmurs of laughter from the crowd before the quiz show swiftly moved on.

Jeremy was referencing a crash Richard suffered during filming for Amazon Prime series The Grand Tour in 2017.

Richard had to be airlifted to hospital during filming in Switzerland when his car was involved in an accident.

Of course, the presenter recovered from the ordeal and recently returned to Amazon in The Grand Tour’s season four premiere.

Back on the ITV show, Jen continued to impress Jeremy with her quizzing prowess as she progressed towards the £1million mark.

So much so, she didn’t want to set her safety net until she’d reached the £64,000 mark.

In order to get there, she was asked: “Which river rises in the Republic of South Africa and flows into the Indian Ocean in Mozambique?”

Jen toyed with the answers before conceding she didn’t know and had used all four lifelines.

She was tonight’s highest-winning contestant, walking home with £32,000.

Who Wants to be a Millionnaire continues every night this week on ITV.
