Jo Brand says Bake Off needs more old contestants to bring ‘interesting mix’

Jo Brand says Bake Off needs to throw more old folk into the mix so they can prove themselves.

The comic, who hosts spin-off Extra Slice, was slating the fact this year’s series was the youngest line-up in the show’s history.

Seven contestants were in their twenties and the oldest was still a spring chicken at 56.

“I would like to see people over the age of 80 in the show,” Jo told Talk TV.

“I think that would be quite interesting for a change. I think it’s always nice to have a mixture, to be honest.

“Because I think old people, despite what most of society think, are actually fascinating. The older you are, the more experience you have to impart.”

Next week will see the semi-finalists battle it out for a spot in the final three.

Steph Blackwell, 28, Alice Fevronia, 28, Rosie Brandreth-Poynter, 28, and David Atherton, 36, are left in the Bake Off tent, all trying to impress judges Paul Hollywood 53, and Prue Leith, 79.

Fans have been commenting on how hard it has been to please Paul this year.

And Jo, 62, agrees, saying he’s definitely got tougher.
