Lego Friends set revealed and it’s going to (Central) Perk up your day
The much-anticipated Lego set based on TV classic Friends is so the best way to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary.
They warned it was coming and now it’s been officially announced: a Lego version of Central Perk and all six Friends characters (and Gunther).
Not only do you get minifigures for Ross Geller, Rachel Green, Chandler Bing, Monica Geller, Joey Tribbiani, and Phoebe Buffay but there’s the famous couch and two chairs, Phoebe’s little stage area, and the shop counter with a brick-built coffee machine.
As an extra neat touch it’s not actually meant to be a real coffee shop but the stage they filmed the show on, so you can see two big film lights up on the bottom corners as well.
The set started life as a fan creation and part of the Lego Ideas range, where anyone can create a model and then send it into the Lego Ideas website and have people vote on it.
If any set gets over 10,000 votes then Lego has to consider it for turning into a real set, which is what happened with Central Perk and French fan Aymeric Fievet.
‘The challenge was to visualise passages of the series to allow me to recreate the furniture and the characters in as much detail as possible’, says Fievet. ‘The assembly of this model took me about a week after finding the necessary references.’
Although some of the Lego Ideas sets are original ideas, like the recent Tree House, a lot of them tend to be licensed sets like The Flintstones, Doctor Who, and The Big Bang Theory.
So if you’ve always wanted a Queen Vic set from EastEnders all you need is a few hundred pieces of Lego and 10,000 or so fans to agree it’s a good idea.
The Central Perk set is made up of 1,079 pieces and measures 29cm wide, 22cm deep, and 11cm high.
The set is number 21319 and will be available to order from Lego stores and the online shop today, although it won’t be available until 1 September.
To get your hands on this lego set, you’ll need to fork out £64.99.
