Love Island winter start date confirmed after Caroline Flack quit as host
Love Island winter will be dropping on Sunday 12 January, 2020, and we’re already so keen.
The official Twitter account confirmed the news, sharing a gif of the logo.
‘Inflatables at the ready… we’re back on January 12th! #LoveIsland,’ it read.
The announcement comes at an awkward time for the show, after Caroline Flack quit as host earlier this week.
She has presented all five seasons of Love Island since its reboot in 2015, and was set to host the first ever winter edition of the show, set in South Africa, next month.
However, it has now been confirmed the 40-year-old has decided to step back from the dating series after she was charged with assault by beating, following an alleged row with boyfriend Lewis Burton.
Confirming the news, she said she is ‘absolutely devastated’.
‘Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it’s the best show on telly. In order to not detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down for series six,’ she explained in a statement, shared on her Instagram page.
‘I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town.’
Addressing the arrest, she continued: ‘There have been a significant number of media reports and allegations in regards to my personal life.
‘While matters were not as have been reported, I am committed to co-operating with the appropriate authorities and I can’t comment further on these matters until the legal process is over.’
ITV has also released a statement, explaining: ‘ITV has a long-standing relationship with Caroline and we understand and accept her decision.
‘We will remain in contact with her over the coming months about future series of Love Island.’
It is not yet known who will replace Caroline on the show, with Maya Jama and Laura Whitmore tipped to take over.
While some have suggested the show could be ‘hostless’, with Iain Stirling’s voiceover job extended.
Love Island kicks off on Sunday, 12 January, 2020, on ITV2.
