Masked Singer’s Martine McCutcheon built hiding place to keep secret from son
Martine McCutcheon has opened up about the inventive measures she put in place at home to stop her young son from finding out she was taking part in The Masked Singer UK.
The Love Actually actress, 44, was revealed as the famous face behind the Swan mask on Saturday night.
She shared an adorable video of her little boy Rafferty, five, reacting to her big reveal on Instagram after the show aired.
Martine has since admitted that she built a marquee in her garden to stop her little boy from finding out she was appearing on the wacky ITV guessing game show.
Speaking to Daily Star and other press, the singer revealed: "You have your fittings and practice your songs and the designers are off beavering away making sure the outfit is going to work for you.
"You do all, most of your rehearsals without your costume, and then last minute you kind of put the whole thing together, and do tweaks from there.
"At one point I had a marquee in my garden and I said to my little boy that it was out there because I was doing a little audition for Great British Bake Off."
The giggling star continued: "He said 'I hope you get to do it mummy, that's a show that I like' but really I was hiding in a tent dressed as a Swan."
Martine, aka Swan, found herself in the dreaded face off against Sausage in the third installment of the outrageous television show.
The panel of celebrity detectives made up of Rita Ora, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan and Jonathan Ross later decided to give Swan the boot from the competition.
Talk-show king Jonathan was the only panelist to guess that Martine was the celebrity hiding in the stunning Swan disguise.
Speaking about the moment Jonathan said her name, Martine said: "I was actually surprised he didn't guess me earlier on.
"He knows me and my career quite well and we've met many times over the years."
The Perfect Moment hitmaker added: "I wasn't sure if he would suss it but when he was saying about my American accent being real or not, I was like 'Oh no Jonathan. Let's try and steer him away as much as I can'.
"It was kind of a relief but I was like 'Oh damn he's got me'."
Martine was the third showbiz name to be unmasked in the series, following in the footsteps of Spice Girls legend Mel B, aka Seahorse, and pop sensation Sophie Ellis-Bextor who was exposed as Alien.
Reacting to being the third British female recording artist to be sent home from the show, Martine teased: "I think we had the less cuddly cute outfits.
"I think people in the audience love the really heartwarming, cute characters.
"It's going to be really funny if we see someone really butch and not cute coming out of one of the cuddly outfits.
"There will definitely be some twist and turns coming up for sure.
"The Masked Singer are known for attracting a diverse mix of people, and undoubtedly we will be like 'What?' as more celebrities are unmasked."
The Masked Singer Uk continues on ITV on Saturday at 7pm
