Meet Bake Off 2019's Priya – marketing consultant from Leicester hoping to impress Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith
THE Great British Bake Off 2019 is fast approaching and Priya is hoping to make an impression on the judges.
Here is what you need to know about the baking hopeful and Bake Off 2019…
Who is The Great British Bake Off 2019 contestant Priya?
Priya, a 34-year-old marketing consultant, first experienced baking with an after-school baking club at primary school.
A decade ago she began baking more seriously as a way of helping her relax and went “baking bonkers” when she was gifted a stand mixer on her wedding day.
She lives with her husband and two children in her home town of Leicester and is writing her first novel.
The mother-of-two hopes to travel the world –tasting sweet and savoury treats – when her kids are older.
What has Priya said about The Great British Bake Off 2019?
The baking enthusiast has said that being accepted onto Bake Off has been “so dreamy and unreal”.
She is certain the experience will change her life and has encouraged her to “pursue the things you love, and you just have to go for it.”
Speaking about her first day on the Bake Off site, she gushed: “When I saw the field that previous bakers have gazed out on. I heard the music in my ears as I walked down the steps.”
What is the Great British Bake Off prize?
With all the drama, sweat and tears that the dedicated bakers go through, you would expect they would be aiming for some grand cash prize, but the answer is no.
The winning prize is just flowers and a cake stand, at least that's what has happened so far.
Previous Bake Off contestant Martha Collison, who reached the quarter-finals in the 2014 series, confirmed to Barrelhouse: “Everyone is so surprised and thinks there must be some secret cash, but all we really get is a bunch of flowers and a cake stand.
“But then, you also kind of become a national treasure just by doing it because everyone in Britain loves the Bake Off so much.”
Who won The Great British Bake off 2018?
Research scientist Rahul Mandal, 32, was the 2018 Bake Off winner.
He overcame two disasters – an icing explosion and a shattered mixing bowl – in the final to win the show.
After winning the show Rahul was signed as a columnist for The Times Magazine, as part of their Saturday supplement.
You can also find him regularly cooking on This Morning.
