Meghan Markle told to ‘shut up’ by TV host over Prince Philip’s funeral
A daytime TV host has hit out at Meghan Markle during a news segment after it was reported that she “didn’t want to be the centre of attention” at Prince Philip’s funeral.
The heavily-pregnant Duchess of Sussex has remained at her home in Montecito, California after being advised to do so by her doctor, meaning husband Prince Harry has flown back to the UK alone.
Friends of Meghan reportedly told MailOnline that she also did not “want to be the centre of attention” at the funeral for the Duke of Edinburgh, who she “adored”. Meghan's friends had also told the Mail that she said this is the opportune time for Harry to mend his relationship with his brother and his dad.
But one TV host has taken issue with the “attention” claims.
After the story aired on Channel 7’s Sunrise in Australia, host Edwina Bartholomew told viewers: “That just really gets my goat.
“I’ve reserved judgment about those two for quite some time, but if that is true, it just makes me so angry.
“I still liked Harry and Meghan, I just, I just feel I’ve turned now.”
Edwina said Meghan would definitely have had a “lot of attention on her and it would have distracted”.
She continued: “But for them to say that, just go with the palace line.”
But royal fans were quick to defend the Meghan, pointing out that she has not said anything on the matter.
“Edwina is being a hypocrite,” one said. “First they acknowledge that a ‘friend’ has given the info, then they say MM should shut up.
“She hasn't said anything publicly. Seems the only ones talking about this are Sunrise and NewsCorp. They're making MM a distraction which they criticise.”
Another viewer said: “Seriously, everyone seems not to be able to finish their show without mentioning Meghan or Prince Harry. It is getting ridiculous the is so much going on right now in the world to focus on.”
And a third commented: “Prince Philip’s life should be the focus of this event and any news coverage about it.”
Philip’s funeral will be taking place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor at 3pm on Saturday, April 17.
