Mitch blames Karen for letting Chantelle die in harrowing EastEnders showdown
As the truth about Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith)’s reign of terror comes out in EastEnders, relief that he’ll face justice gives way to guilt and blame among the residents of Albert Square.
Should they have noticed what was going on?
Could they have done anything to stop Gray?
The Taylors are feeling the strain as much as anybody, as they deal with the pain of discovering the full truth of the suffering that Chantelle endured from Gray.
When Mitch (Roger Griffiths) thinks it’s time that they told Mack (Isaac Lemonius) and Mia (Mahalia Malcolm) the truth about Gray and Chantelle, the distressing conversation is too much for Karen (Lorraine Stanley) and she has to rush out of the room.
Mitch also struggles to talk to Mack and Mia, and Keegan (Zack Morris) has to step in and take over the difficult conversation. Mitch is devastated as he realises that he didn’t do enough to protect his daughter.
In his grief, rather than be united with Karen he lashes out at her and blames her for not noticing the signs that Gray was abusing Chantelle.
His words cut Karen to the core and she throws him out, devastated that he could cast the blame on her.
