Pauley Perrette played a crucial role as the NCIS team’s forensic scientist for the first 15 seasons of the popular CBS series. As the coronavirus pandemic continues in the United States, the star took to Twitter to detail the symptoms of an unfortunate injury.
The former NCIS star revealed on August 16 on Twitter that she had damaged her rhomboid muscle trying to lift a heavy bag of soil.
In addition to her acting and charity work, Perrette is known for sharing photos of her homegrown tomatoes to her social media followers.
Unfortunately, she found out gardening can come with its own set of risks after taking on some dangerous heavy-lifting.
The star tweeted: “Threw my back out. Picked up a bag of soil that weighs more than me while telling myself: ‘Don’t pick that up! You’re gonna hurt yourself’ but I did and I did.”
“My Rhomboid for the 2nd time! Only hurts when you breathe or move. If you’ve done it you know! My selfie of my back :)”
She then accompanied her tweet with a cross section of a back, with the rhomboid muscle located near the shoulder blades.
Perrette previously caused concern amongst her followers when she claimed to have suffered from COVID-19 symptoms in late 2019.
The actress went on Twitter to ask fans if it would have been possible to contract the virus as early as December, before the pandemic was made official in March.
Thankfully, Perrette has since recovered from suspected coronavirus, though she may need more time to heal her back injury.
Upon posting the tweet, fans took to the replies to send their good wishes during her recovery.
One fan said: “Hey Pauley. Sorry to hear you have injured yourself, just make sure you rest it and don’t aggravate it if you can help it.
“Also no picking up any of your rescue dogs no matter how much you want to. Who is going to look after the tomatoes? Big love.”

While other fans warned against the dangers of lifting heavy objects with her back.
Another follower explained: “Gotta lift with your legs girl! I have hyper flexibility so everytime I lift my arms, my shoulders pop around anyways.
“So I can relate to pulling it too far. Sorry you hurt yourself! Take a nice, hot soak. Or put some heat on it.”
Luckily, Perrette’s injury won’t impede the production of the latest season of NCIS as she announced her departure from the series in 2017.
Her final episode aired on May 8 2018, and Abby has since been replaced with new forensic specialist Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover).
The former NCIS star continues to act, having recently starred in new sitcom Broke for CBS.
Meanwhile, fans are still anticipating the return of NCIS after the mainline series and its two spin-offs were cut short by coronavirus delays.
NCIS season 17 is available to stream on CBS All Access.
