Rick and Morty theories: Fans expose hilarious way Rick always identifies himself

A recent episode of the Adult Swim cartoon featured an irrational Rick (played by Justin Roiland) going on a furious tirade against someone using his private toilet. Rick and Morty fans have recently spotted how this episode relates to a throwaway gag in the previous season.

Sometimes when popular series are going through a lengthy hiatus the only possible course of action is going back through old episodes.

Season four of Rick and Morty seemed well underway when five episodes dropped on Adult Swim from November to December.

Sadly the era of vast pauses between new content hasn’t yet come to an end, and fans are still eagerly anticipating the second half of the season.

The wait has, of course, prompted die hard fans of the show to revisit old gems, including Rick and his grandson Morty’s (also Justin Roiland) return to the Citadel in season three.

  • Rick and Morty season 4: Summer star reveals reason for delay

During the season premiere, Rick infiltrates the Citadel and crassly says “I’m going to take a dump” whenever he needs to get out of a tight spot and reach the next level of security clearance.

Fans found it a characteristically crude throwaway gag for the episode, but it doesn’t seem to gel with the later revelation in season four that Rick is very shy about going number two.

One fan took to Reddit to speculate a potential explanation for the apparent inconsistency.

Reddit user djoler said: “Either all Ricks are shy poopers and all toilets at the citadel are single toilets (full walls and doors for each of them).”

As the Citadel was built by infinite Ricks from alternate dimensions, it would make sense that the architecture would comply with the genius scientist’s needs for discretion.

However, the fan continued: “Rick (being the Rickest Rick of them all) is the only shy pooper and was making sure his cover is not blown by openly saying that he’s gonna go and take a dump several times.

The Rick the series is currently following comes from the dimension C-137.

Throughout the series, fans have been speculating C-137 is called such due to C-137’s status as a scientifically significant number.

Therefore it stands to reason that the current Rick from this dimension is the ideal form of that character.

One fan agreed with this theory and added: “Second idea makes so much sense.”

As another viewer elaborated: “Especially since in The Old Man and the Seat he uses a euphemism before he goes.

“Granted he’s at the dinner table and context goes a long way, but I’ve wondered more than once why such a shy pooper would be so nonchalant about announcing it like he does in The Rickshank Redemption.”
