Ronan Keating worried about son Jack on Love Island after he was quiet and nervous
Proud dad Ronan Keating has playfully admitted how his son Jack’s appearance in the Love Island villa has left him feeling “worried” after the 23 year old made his entrance to Casa Amor last week.
Prior to his debut, Ronan had been filled with excitement for his son as he entered the villa in the hopes of finding the love of his life, and even made comments on social media that were filled with unwavering support for his eldest child.
However, after two days in the villa, that initial excitement has been tinged with parental concern, after Jack appeared to be “quiet and nervous” during his initial meetings with his fellow Islanders.
The former Boyzone singer made the comments during Monday’s edition of The One Show, as hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas asked him how he was feeling seeing his son trying to impress the ladies on screen.
“I’m a mess, I’m an absolute mess,” Ronan said.
“I mean Storm [Ronan's wife and Jack's stepmum] is doing better than I am. We all miss him in the house, we really do, little brother Cooper and his little sister Coco and Missy, we all miss him.
“His episode last night, he seemed a little bit quiet, he seemed a little bit nervous, which is understandable I guess. I wish him the best, I hope he does okay.
“He’s got such a big heart and he’s a real softie, so I’m just worried about him in there with those other guys,” he added.
Tuning in to the show in order to see Jack on screen, in one particularly cheeky moment, Ronan recalled his reaction to seeing him talk to fellow Islander Gemma Owen and even name drop his famous dad.
Yet it wasn’t the reveal that left the musician reeling, but Jack’s decision to tell Gemma that he was “retired.”
Trying to hide his laughter at the recollection, Ronan said: “He did alright. He did okay. I mean, he did drop the line that I was retired, which I was a bit shocked about.
“I nearly fell off my chair! What?! I’m doing The One Show next week, I’m in York tonight, I’m not retired yet!"
Despite his worries, Ronan admitted he couldn’t be prouder of his son, and even shared some of his own sage wisdom with Jack prior to him appearing on the show.
“I said to him, be yourself and have a good time. That’s really it, y’know,” said Ronan.
“People go in with plans and ideas but the bottom line is to be yourself and I hope people at home see that and warm to him. He’s my boy! I just want to protect him and look after him.”
Love Island continues every night at 9pm on ITV2.
