Shimon Hayut is being slammed with a lawsuit from the real Leviev family
The Tinder Swindler conman Shimon Hayut is being sued by the real Leviev family for claiming to be the son of a diamond mogul.
Shimon, who gained fame from the Netflix documentary revealing him to be a conman, posed as the billionaire relative of the real Israel-Russian businessman Lev Leviev, although they are not really related at all.
Lev Leviev Diamonds is one of the world’s largest diamond manufacturers and distributors, and according to Wikipedia, Lev’s net worth was $1billion (£746m) as of March 2018.
Disguised as Simon Leviev, Shimon was exposed by his victims as a man who has been jailed twice (once for defrauding several women) and is wanted around the world for several crimes. Not the son of a billionaire diamond oligarch.
Lev and his wife Olga do not have a son called Simon among their nine children.
Shimon seduced women around the world on Tinder under the disguise of a jet-setting diamond mogul, and allegedly conned them out of all their money with the excuse of his enemies being after him.
He has been accused by women around the world to have stolen thousands of dollars from them, leaving them in mountains of debt.
The children of the ‘King of Diamonds’ Lev Leviev are now filing a private complaint in Tel Aviv’s Magistrates Court against Shimon for defamation and violation of privacy, accusing the swindler of using their family name for ‘criminal purposes’.
‘The Leviev family is a wealthy family and has many businesses, including a diamond company affiliated with it. Shimon Yehuda Hayut changed his name to Simon Leviev, and for a long time posed, and still poses, in Israel and around the world, as a member of the Leviev family,’ the motion reads.
‘As a result, he received many favors and enjoyed various benefits, all while presenting a false narrative and claiming the Leviev family will cover his costs.
‘He also used the trademark of the family’s diamond company and made his victims believe that he was actually a member of it.
‘By doing so, he deceived, lied, and hurt innocent women, men, and businesses in Israel and around the world, and as a result, his actions were associated with the family name.’
The Attorney representing the Leviev family added that this is the first of many complaints being held against Shimon, and that the family intends to donate the money they obtain from Shimon to the other victims.
This money would also include profits Shimon has gained from his newfound fame, including selling merchandise and from selling personalised videos on Cameo.
According to the popular Netflix true crime doc, he allegedly moved from one woman to another, stealing an estimated $10million (£7.3m) over the years, and was wanted around the globe for several crimes including forgery and theft.
In 2019, he was jailed in Israel for travelling on a fake passport, but was released after five months on good behaviour.
Shimon previously spent two years in a Finnish prison for defrauding several women, and was released in 2017.
The three victims who exposed him in the documentary are continuing their work to put him behind bars once and for all, and have the support of fans and Netflix fighting their corner.
Despite this, Shimon continues to insist he is innocent, and in an interview with Inside Edition has claimed he is ‘not a monster’.
‘I was just a single guy that wanted to meet some girls on Tinder. I am not a Tinder Swindler.’
Metro.co.uk has contacted Shimon’s representatives for comment.
The Tinder Swindler is available to watch on Netflix.
