Spoilers: Adam and Carla's secret in Corrie is out – what's next for Peter?
This week we’ve celebrated sixty years of Coronation Street with two huge episodes so far. As Ray Crosby (Mark Frost) put his plans for his redevelopment into place, the community came together to try and stop him. Elsewhere, after Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) was finally released from prison, we saw the end off Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) as he fell from the roof of No.6 after a showdown with Yasmeen and Alya Nazir (Sair Khan).
Tonight (December 11), sees the beginning of what no doubt will be some dramatic few weeks after Adam (Sam Robertson) revealed to Peter (Chris Gascoyne) that he was the one who slept with Carla (Alison King).
With Peter struggling with his paranoia and alcohol addiction, the revelation that the love of his life slept with none other than his nephew will create a huge impact on him. As the Barlows deal with Carla and Adam’s secret night of passion, let’s look at what could happen next:
How will Peter react?
Now Peter has discovered the truth after weeks of wondering who Carla slept with, the fact that it’s another Barlow means he could completely explode with anger. In the past when a Barlow has betrayed the family, the aftermath has been huge (need we remind you of the ‘Who pushed Ken Barlow down the stairs’ storyline), so when it comes to what happens next with Peter, anything is possible. Could he really forgive Carla and Adam? Or is he about to plan deadly revenge on the both of them if he fails to cope with everything that’s happened?
Will Peter hit the bottle?
Peter’s turned to drink a couple of times since his attack and taxi was stolen, and now his relationship with Carla is potentially ruined, is his only option but to turn to drink? Carla loves Peter dearly so if she discovers he’s started drinking again, can she even get through to him if Peter feels so betrayed and hurt by the woman he loves?
Is it all over for Peter and Carla?
Chris Gascoyne summed up Peter and Carla’s relationship perfectly in a recent interview. He told us: ‘they can’t live with each other and they can’t live without each other. They’re deeply in love but they’re not good for each other.’ In the past, Peter and Carla have faced several challenges to test their relationship and have come out the other side of them stronger than ever before, but could this really be the final straw for them?
We all remember how supportive Peter was when Carla was struggling with her mental health, but if she begins to find it hard to cope with lying to Peter and him turning to drink, she could be facing some difficult times on her own soon.
Is there relationship really over for good?
How will Ken react to Adam’s betrayal?
In the past, Ken (William Roache) and Adam’s relationship has been a difficult one. Let’s not forget Adam is the son of Mike Baldwin, the man who had the iconic affair with Deirdre, and who was Ken’s sworn nemesis. Ken and Adam have clashed plenty of times before, but how will Ken react to Adam essentially creating a modern-day version of the Ken/Mike/Deirdre love triangle? He’s the head of the family, so if Ken reacts badly to Adam, who already feels like an outsider anyway, he could go as far as pushing him out of the family completely.
What about Sarah?
If Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) never walked into the pub she could’ve potentially been in the dark about Adam sleeping with Carla for ages. Perfectly timing her entrance, Sarah now knows Adam has lied to her after the two of them had literally just decided to start their relationship again.
After Adam ended their relationship because Sarah was too focused on Gary Windass (Mikey North), what will happen with their relationship now? Could their relationship end for good this time? Furthermore, Sarah has been supporting Carla recently after discovering she had slept with someone and also saw Peter drunk, what will this do to their friendship now Sarah has discovered her friend and working partner has slept with the man she loves, after Carla spent so long trying to play cupid and get the two of them back together?
Now Adam has isolated himself among the Barlows, his future in Weatherfield and the family is in jeopardy. They could completely disown him, forcing him to lose the little family he does have on the cobbles, and Peter could be about to plot horrific revenge on him, after all, Peter’s plan to punish Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) back in 2017 was to trick him into thinking he was going to push him off a cliff – he could stoop to a whole new low with Adam.
When Peter gets hurt, dark times are always on the horizon for him, and add his drinking into the mix, Adam should start looking over his shoulder now, anything could happen to him in tonight’s episode.
