Spoilers: Chantelle terrified by vicious attack from evil Gray in EastEnders
We have seen what Gray Atkins (Toby Alexander-Smith) is capable of when he loses control of his temper in EastEnders and it’s usually his wife Chantelle (Jessica Plummer) who bears the brunt of his violent abuse. And when stress at work piles the pressure on Gray and he is ready to explode, Chantelle worries for her safety and that of her children.
Having taken on both the cases of Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) and Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) in connection with Leo King’s (Tom Wells) injuries and subsequent death, it’s all taking its toll on Gray when his bosses pile on the pressure to get Kush to plead guilty in order to make Whitney’s case better.
As Gray visits Whitney in prison, it’s clear that she is not coping but Gray lies to Tiffany (Maisie Smith) when he sees her, assuring her that Whitney is fine. With his head messed up, Chantelle tries to comfort Gray at home but he takes the stress of the day out on her, erupting with anger and roughly grabbing her.
As Chantelle worries about how far Gray will go as the pressure on him mounts, Gray puts it to Kush that he pleads guilty in court – but when Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) hears about this, she is quick to confront Gray about what he is playing at. When Gray admits to Kat that Kush pleading guilty would make things better for Whitney, she is shocked and conflicted.
On the day of Kush’s plea, Gray plants seeds of doubt in his mind, his boss’ words ringing in his ears and Kush makes a decision. It’s then time for Whitney’s bail hearing and tensions are soon mounting.
With Gray under pressure to get a result and Whitney’s loved ones turning up in support, the stakes are high but as words are exchanged and Gray tries to get her bail, Whitney starts to lose patience.
Will she snap at the injustice and ruin her own chances of bail?
One to watch: Monday 2 March at 8pm on BBC One.
