Spoilers: Whitney jailed in murder twist after EastEnders outburst in court?
Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) is facing a lengthy prison sentence in EastEnders after killing her stalker Leo King (Tom Wells) in a violent struggle. With her standing accused of murder, she is hoping that lawyer Gray Atkins (Toby Alexander-Smith) can help her prove that her actions were in self defence – but when she loses patience in court during a plea hearing, she could impact her own chances of freedom.
With Whitney having lied about Mick Carter’s (Danny Dyer) help with her on the fateful night as well as the fact that she went on to attend a boat party while Leo was lying dead against her, Whitney is losing hope and when Gray visits her in prison, she is clearly in a bad state of mind.
He returns and reassures Tiffany (Maisie Smith) that Whitney is fine but the toll of the case is heavy on Gray and he ends up exploding with rage at a terrified Chantelle (Jessica Plummer), who bears the brunt of his violent temper.
Later, Gray’s boss puts pressure on Gray to get Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) to plead guilty to Leo’s balcony fall at his own hearing as it will have a better impact on Whitney’s case. Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) is conflicted by these events as it looks likely that either one or the other of Kush and Whitney is going to spend a long time behind bars.
As Gray plants seeds of doubt in Kush’s mind on the way to court, Kush makes a decision but will he make a major sacrifice to give Whitney a fighting chance.
By the time the bail hearing arrives, the pressure is high on Gray and Whitney is at her most stressed, with her time inside cracking her and the audacity of the allegations against her after she was the victim of stalking.
As tensions reach boiling point in the courtroom, Whitney loses her cool – but will she find herself jailed after an outburst? And has she made her whole case even worse?
One to watch: Friday 6 March at 8pm on BBC One.
