Stranger Things season 4: Robin’s fate sealed after show-stopping finale?
Stranger Things season three finale left things wide open for the cast to return for another outing after the Hawkins crew were successful once again in stopping the Mind Flayer from taking over the town.
Steve Harrington (played by Joe Keery) and his Scoops Ahoy co-worker Robin (played by Maya Hawke) proved popular characters in the Netflix hit, and actress Maya was quick to reveal more on her character, who was new for season three.
Speaking to Consequence of Sound, Maya opened up about how her character evolved from script to screen.
She said: “Robin evolved a lot as we filmed the season. I think the Duffer brothers take a lot of inspiration from their actors, so the better the brothers got to know me, the more the character changed. But you would have to ask the brothers about that.”
“Robin sees herself as an under-the-radar big fish in a small pond. She is really driven and works really hard at school, because she knows someday, she’ll make it out of Hawkins and she wants to be ready.”
The actress also shared her hopes for Robin should there be a season four, revealing she would like to see her move on from Scoops Ahoy, the ice cream parlour she and Steve work at in the Starcourt Mall.
Maya explained: “I wanna see her at the video store.
“So many of the great minds of the ‘80s and ‘80s filmmakers and creatives started out working in video stores, and as far as I know, that environment hasn’t really been explored on TV. I think that would be really fun.”
After spending the past season getting to know her character, Maya didn’t hesitate to predict what kind of music Robin would like, suggesting the likes of Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, Joan Jett and The Runaways.
Whilst season four has yet to be officially confirmed by Netflix, the Duffer brothers, who created the show, have given some hints about what fans can expect should it get the green light.
In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the brothers teased they wanted to have more “portals” to take the characters out of Hawkins, Indiana, and into different worlds.
Show creator Ross Duffer said: “We have the big broad strokes… It’s just now about filling in those lines in the details.
“We’re pretty excited about where it’s potentially going to go. Again, like we said, it’s going to feel very different than this season. But I think that’s the right thing to do and I think it’ll be exciting.”
The tease comes after the season finale came to a close, teasing a mysterious figure locked in a Russian clue, referred to as “The American”. /showbiz/tv-radio/1149607/Stranger-things-season-3-ending-explained-what-happened-at-the-end-netflix-starcourt
Signs are pointing to this “American” being Jim Hopper (David Harbour), as the Chief of Police who was last seen disappearing in the explosion caused by the closing of the gate to the Upside Down.
Fans also think that he may have been sucked into the Upside Down and found himself in Russia.
Matt, the other half of the famous Duffer brothers confessed the scene was a tease for another outing.
He said: “I think the biggest thing that’s going to happen is it’s going to open up a little bit, not necessarily in terms of scale [or] in terms of special effects…but open up in terms of allowing portals into areas outside of Hawkins.
“Assuming there’s a season four, obviously the question of who that American is in that cell and then also what they’re doing with the Demogorgon, is a tease… That’s obviously going to play a huge role in a potential season four.”
