Strictly sees fifth celeb leave following Fleur Easts second dance-off
Strictly Come Dancing’s Halloween week pulled out all the stops with incredible – and some ghostly – performances from this year’s contestants.
But it wasn’t all fun and games for the spooky holiday, as on Sunday, 30 October, one more contestant had to leave after a tense dance off.
The pair in the bottom two were Fleur East and James Bye, and after performing for a second time, the judges opted to save Fleur, leaving EastEnders actor James saying his goodbyes.
Both couples performed their routines again with James and his dance partner Amy Dowden performing their Charleston to “Bumble Bee” by LaVern Baker.
Following their dance, Fleur and her dance partner Vito Coppola performed their Salsa to “Break My Soul” by Beyoncé in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.
After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts.
Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Fleur and Vito and said: “Well, it’s my responsibility to save the better dancer and the better dancer tonight for me was Fleur and Vito."
Motsi Mabuse agreed: “For me, there were different levels of dancing on the dance floor, and I have decided to save Fleur and Vito."
Anton Du Beke was also with the other two judges with his choice: “I thought both couples danced better on Saturday night. They didn’t reproduce their best performance, but it doesn’t have to be the best performance, it has to be better and I thought their performance was just good enough. Fleur and Vito.”
With three votes to Fleur and Vito it meant they had won the majority vote and would be staying in the competition regardless.
Head Judge Shirley Ballas also said she would have saved Fleur and Vito when asked for her choice.
During Saturday’s show, James and Amy’s dance scored 27 placing them bottom of the leader board.
Earlier in the week,James spoke about the “risky” lifthe performed during Halloween Week and how he felt about it.
Speaking on Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two on Tuesday, James said: "Loads of lifts. So we’ve not had a chance yet, whenever we’ve done a dance, one of your (Amy's) feet has to be on the floor. Whereas now, two feet in the air, we’ve got some big lifts coming in. I’m scared."
To which Amy added: "Yeah, I mean, some of these lifts have never been done on Strictly before… And they are risky, they really are."
With James joking: "For you, yeah. Not for me, I’ve got two feet on the floor at all times, I’m safe and sound but Amy is upside down, she’s going over my shoulder, yes, scary."
