Strictly's AJ Pritchard claims show 'wouldn't let him do things'

AJ Pritchard has claimed that Strictly Come Dancing ‘wouldn’t let him do things’ on the show.

The professional dancer announced in March that he would not be returning to the BBC series because he wanted to ‘explore other opportunities’.

However, now the 25-year-old has explained that the dancing competition ‘wouldn’t allow a lot of things to happen’.

‘I’m the sort of person — for example coming off Strictly — I make decisions, then I just deal with them and I go with them 100 per cent,’ he began.

‘I did four years of Strictly, which I absolutely loved, but it was definitely the right time for me to venture into new things.’

‘Strictly wouldn’t allow a lot of things to happen that I wanted to happen, so it meant you do have to do that leap, and for me it’s not a risk, it’s something I’m passionate about,’ he added to The Sun.

It comes after he dancer admitted that he was ‘happy’ not to take part in the series this year – which kicked off on Saturday.

Speaking on Lorraine Kelly, with his brother Curtis Pritchard, AJ said he was happy to watch the show from the comfort of his sofa.

‘[I was] sat on the sofa, appreciating the work from the camera, hair, make-up, wardrobe, and obviously, the professional dancers. They are doing their job, they’re trained to dance, they’re trained to choreograph, Jason’s routines were absolutely amazing…,’ he told the host.

‘But let’s be honest, you’re not missing it,’ Curtis chipped in.

Holding his hands up (metaphorically), AJ replied: ‘I was quite happy to sit down on the sofa.’
