The Strictly Come Dancing professional Nikita Kuzmin leapt to the defence of his celebrity partner Ellie Simmonds on the BBC Two spin-off show It Takes Two on Tuesday night. The dancer reacted to comments from Anton Du Beke when host Rylan got the lowdown from the hopeful dance pair.

BBC host Rylan used the opportunity to quiz Nikita on how Anton’s negative feedback sat with them after their week three dance.

He asked: “Anton said you might watch it back and look at some of the footwork and be disappointed in certain things. Did you feel that?”

Nikita fired back: “I didn’t feel exactly that way because what I see here, is we have a five-times Paralympic champion.

“All of those victories did not come with sacrifices, they didn’t come without stumbles on the way.”

The passionate dancer added: “So, I just look at this: Ellie always did this in her life, she picked herself up next week it gets better and now we’re improving.”

Ellie also shared his optimism for the future on the BBC showpiece and was not taking the comments from Anton too much to heart.

She told Rylan: “I am going to take each week as it comes. So yeah if we go out there on Saturday and we can get a decent score.

“But I think it’s just about going out there and enjoying it and we are absolutely loving it. I did a few stumbles and a few missteps and my brain went, ‘Woah what am I doing’

During the segment the host laughed at the situation, adding, ‘Where am I? Oh I am on Strictly is it Tap or Quickstep!?”

Ellie replied: “Thats how it was, I was like, where am I what am I doing, ‘Nikita where are you?'”

On last Saturday’s show the pair danced the Quickstep to Peppy and George from The Artist.

The pair received a respectable score of 27 from the judges on last Saturday’s special Movie Week show, but  there was some controversy over the judge’s comments.

Anton remarked: “I would like those stronger heel leads coming forward because there’s so much to like.”

Shirley Ballas added: “Anton is correct but like everyone else you’re working on your footwork.”

Shirley told Ellie T: “No heel leads we are going into week three and the first step of every step was a heel lead.

“So from today, I’m not accepting any heel leads and that goes for everybody else because you have a choice and I know that you have been told.”

Nikita commented: “Just a little bit confused because Shirley said previously to Ellie T that everything must be a point so we thought it’s also for ballroom as well but it’s heel in ballroom so we got a bit confused there.”

“Next time we’re going to get there,” he added.
