Strictly Come Dancing star Nikita Kuzmin has warned his celebrity partner Ellie Simmonds needs to improve on certain aspects of their Paso Doble before their routine on Saturday’s show. The pro opened up to Janette Manrara on It Takes Two about how their rehearsals have gone this week.
Paralympian gold medallist Ellie also reflected on their progress during their appearance on the Strictly spin-off show.
She told presenter Janette there have been some requests lost in translation as they prepare to dance to Montagues and Capulets by Sergei Prokofiev this week.
Ellie explained while gesturing to Nikita: “You’re saying intense aren’t you, and I am trying, but sometimes I am too much.”
Janette intervened: “Noone has ever said too much for the Pasa Doble!”

Nikita then remarked: “We’ve been talking a lot about tense and intense, I don’t want tense.”
“I would love intensity and there is a small difference, tense is just tensing, intense is a certain feeling, a certain body position.”
He did praise his partner’s efforts too, declaring: “She’s doing great, amazing.”
The professional may stand a good chance to score highly this week, as Janette praised his credentials with this kind of dance.
Janette added: “I am not going to lie, I saw Nikita’s ‘Paso’, he’s a pretty good Pasa Doble dancer so you’re in good hands with Nikita.”
On their last appearance on Strictly, Nikita encouraged Ellie and gave a rallying cry to his partner following their impressive judge’s score.
After receiving 30 points, Nikita told Ellie: “I have to say, Ellie, you haven’t achieved five Paralympic gold medals without some stumbles along the way.
“You always pick yourself up, you always push hard, and this is the result.”
Their tight bond is a feature one expert believes Ellie may be set to lift the Glitterball trophy at the series finale.
Behavioural expert Darren Stanton said on behalf of We Love Brum: “I think one of Ellie‘s endearing qualities is her humility as she never assumes that she has made it to the next week or expects to sail through the competition.
“When it was announced she got through on Sunday night’s results show she displayed genuine elation, never taking the success for granted.
He continued: “[It] shows great humility and a person who is not being ruled by ego.”
The expert added: “There are also a few interesting tell-tale signs that Ellie and Nikita have grown to be incredibly close to each other.
“In the results show, when Ellie spoke to Claudia about being recognised by someone while out with Nikita, it was noticeable she did not use the word ‘I’.
“It was not ‘I did this’ or ‘I did that’, it was about them as a pair as she told the story.”
Ellie and Nikita are currently fancied at 10/1 by Bet Victor to be crowned champions of the ballroom.
