The Batman: ‘It doesn’t count’ Robert Pattinson’s ODD revelation about upcoming movie
The Batman actor Robert Pattinson is eager to get cracking on Matt Reeves’ upcoming take on the DC Comics character, having been announced as the new Bruce Wayne earlier this year. In an interview with Willie Geist on NBC’s Sunday Sitdown, however, the former Twilight star had an unexpected take on Batman.
When the host referred to his next project as a “superhero” movie, Pattinson insisted: “Batman’s not a superhero.
“It’s weird. I always balk at it,” he laughed. “I’m like, it doesn’t count.
“You need to have magical powers to be a superhero,” he insisted.
“You’ve got a cape, which is a pretty good start,” Geist observed.

“I’ll give you that one,” Pattinson conceded, chuckling.
After airing his views on whether or not Batman, AKA billionaire Wayne, qualifies as a “superhero”, The Lighthouse star went on to recall his reaction to being offered the part, previously played by Ben Affleck, saying it was “an immediate yes”.
Pattinson also said he had loved every incarnation of Batman over the years, praising the likes of Christian Bale and Michael Keaton by saying: “Everyone’s really looked after the character over its history. There’s a lot of reverence for it.
“You can’t say no to it, and I really wanted to say yes!” he added.
“I think Matt Reeves had got a really good direction for it and I’m really eager to get started on it.”
Director Reeves recently revealed the upcoming Batman film will be “very much a point of view-driven noir Batman tale” in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“It’s told very squarely on his shoulder and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional,” he said.
“It’s more Batman in his detective mode that we’ve seen in the films.”

Elsewhere, Pattinson previously gave a glimpse at what DC fans could expect from the new Batman, teasing an “interesting direction” from Reeves.
“I really like Matt Reeves and his setup for it,” he told Variety. “It’s something from the comics which hasn’t really been explored yet.”
Hinting that Reeves might be examining Batman in a new light, he added that the character “actually has a lot of leeway”.
Reeves previously directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the sequel War for the Planet of the Apes.
Pattinson kickstarted his acting career as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire before playing Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise.
