After stepping away from her role as Naomi Hyland on NBC’s The Blacklist, Mary Louise Parker was set to star an upcoming movie – which has now been axed. Before the announcement of its cancellation, Natalie Portman was billed to play the lead role in HBO’s Days of Abandonment and her departure allegedly spurred the movie to get dropped.

The streaming platform recently announced they would no longer be going ahead with the production of the movie.

HBO released a statement which read: “Due to unforeseen personal reasons, Natalie Portman has stepped down from HBO Films’ Days of Abandonment prior to the start of filming”

It continued: “Unfortunately, the production will not move forward. We are very sorry we won’t be able to bring this beautiful story to the screen with our talented writer/director and cast.

“We send our sincere thanks to our cast, producers, and crew for all their passion and hard work,” they added.

Days of Abandonment was going to follow a woman named Tess, who had given up on her dreams to concentrate on creating a stable home life.

After being unexpectedly abandoned by her husband, her life completely turned upside down.

The movie was set to be the onscreen adaptation of a 2005 novel of the same name, written by Italian author Elena Ferrante.

In 2014, Entertainment Weekly described the storyline as “an artful rage of a novel about a middle-aged woman reeling from the sudden news that her husband is leaving her and their children.”

Although the reasons why Natalie stepped down are not known, it was reported by The Hollywood Reporter production had been granted $3.4 million and filming was set to begin in Sydney, Australia.

Mary-Louise was set to play an unnamed mysterious and elusive woman that Tess would run into everywhere she went, which caused Tess to question her sanity.

Actor Rafe Spall was cast to play Oliver, Tess’ husband of fifteen years, loving father of their young children.

As a successful college professor, the charming and attractive husband appeared to be the ideal partner before the abandonment.

Mary Louise is best known for her portrayal of Naomi Hyland on NBC’s thriller The Blacklist.

There she played the ex-wife of lead character Raymond Reddington before being tragically killed by Protean (Elan Zafir) in season eight.

The Blacklist became a huge success, receiving raved reviews from critics and gaining a ton of devoted fans across the world.

The actress is also known for her role in comedy-drama Weeds, where she was Nancy Botwin from 2005 until its season finale in 2012.

There she played the lead role of a desperate widowed mother who began dealing marijuana to support her family.

For her portrayal in Weeds, Mary-Louise received a Golden Globe in 2007.

The actress has also been awarded a Primetime Emmy Award and a Tony Award throughout her career.

In 2022, she is set to take the Broadway stage for the revival of How I Learned To Drive.
