The Great season two was offically given the green light today (Thursday, July 2) by American network Hulu.
The series renewal does not come as a huge shock, considering Hulu said The Great was ” one of the top performing original comedies” on the platform.
Unfortunately, an offical release date for the new series was not given.
Fans can expect the second series to arrive in May 2021, if the show follows the same release pattern as season one.
However, due to the current coronavirus outbreak, there is always the possibility season two could face delays.
The Great is currently airing on Starzplay in the UK and will air on Channel 4 later this summer, so fans can expect more details on the show’s future after the UK’s release.

What will happen in The Great season 2?
The Great tells the story of the rise of Catherine the Great and how she became the longest-reigning ruler in Russia’s history.
The show is a historical comedy and is very loosely related to historical fact.
Season one of The Great followed Catherine the Great (played by Elle Fanning) as she arrived in Russia to marry Peter III (Nicholas Hoult).
The second series is likely to follow Catherine’s later years and her relationship with her lover Grigory Orlov.
Executive Producer Marian Macgowan revealed to Decider the second series could explore class divisions in Russia.
She said: “I think if season two, if we were to be so lucky, we would certainly explore that more.”
“Because she would become more active and therefore it would be more relevant.”
In her later years, Catherine the Great came to power following a successful coup d’etat she organised, resulting in Peter III being overthrown.
Season two could see the coup take place and how Catherine rebuilt Russia.
