‘The Suicide Squad’ to Add ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ Star as Idris Elba’s Daughter
Storm Reid is closing in on a deal to join the cast of James Gunn’s DC-Warner Bros. supervillain movie as the daughter of Elba’s heavily-guarded character.
AceShowbiz –Storm Reid is moving from a magical land to join a band of outlaws. The 16-year-old actress, who recently starred in Disney’s fantasy film “A Wrinkle in Time” (2018), is reportedly being eyed to star in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad“.
Details of her role, as with other characters in the DC supervillain movie, are kept under tight wraps, but it’s reported that she will play the daughter of Idris Elba‘s character. Elba was earlier cast to fill the void left by Will Smith, who played Deadshot in 2016’s “Suicide Squad”, but the “Avengers: Infinity War” actor will reportedly take on a new role.
“Suicide Squad” stars Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis are expected to reprise their roles as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag and Amanda Waller, respectively. Meanwhile, John Cena is rumored to play Peacemaker, “Ant-Man” actor David Dastmalchian is said to star as Polka-Dot Man, and Michael Rooker may play King Shark.
Gunn is hired to write the script and direct “The Suicide Squad”, which has been described as not a sequel to the 2016 film. Filming is slated to begin in September in Atlanta for a scheduled August 6, 2021 release in the United States. Charles Roven is among the board of producers for the action-adventure pic.
2016’s “Suicide Squad”, also starring Jared Leto as the Joker, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Ike Barinholtz as Griggs, Jau Hernandez as El Diablo, Scott Eastwood as “GQ” Edwards, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, was a commercial success. It grossed a total of $746.8 million worldwide despite being panned by critics.
Reid had her breakthrough role when starring as Meg opposite Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling in Ava Duvernay-directed “A Wrinkle in Time”. She also landed a small role as Emily in Academy Award-winning film “12 Years a Slave” (2013) and will next be seen in mystery horror-thriller “Don’t Let Go“, which is due out August 30 in the U.S. Reid currently has a regular role on HBO’s teen drama series “Euphoria“.
