The Voice UK 2020: Sir Tom Jones reveals one thing he told bosses when Olly Murs joined
Tom Jones has appeared on the hit ITV talent show for every series except one and has seen a number of coaches come and go over the years. Ahead of the current series, The Voice UK welcomed a new addition to the team as Meghan Trainor stepped into Jennifer Hudson’s shoes. But after admitting he has been given a surprising power by ITV bosses over the coaching line-up, Tom couldn’t help but take a cheeky swipe at Olly Murs.
Coaches Tom, Olly, will.i.am and Meghan are busy listening out for new talent during the blind auditions of the ITV talent show.
All four coaches are known for their cheeky interactions in between auditions where they often take light-hearted swipes at each other especially if one coach has been chosen over another by a contestant.
Meghan has settled into her new role on the show and won the first four-chair turn where one singer had to pick which coach she wanted as a mentor after all four coaches turned around.
Despite Tom admitting how much he enjoys Meghan on the show, ITV bosses have given him a power which meant the American singer’s fate as a coach was partly in his hands.

Speaking to press including Express.co.uk, Tom and Olly were asked if they had any opinion on Meghan prior to her joining the team.
As the Welsh crooner explained producers come to him for his opinion on prospective coaches, he took a swipe at co-coach Olly.
“They just ask me [about Meghan Trainor joining],” he explained.
“They said ‘We are thinking of Meghan Trainor’, and then I checked her out because she was on a talent show in the States.”
However, Olly revealed he had no idea Tom had been given this power and was shocked by his revelation.
The pop star wanted to know whether his co-star had any say when he was suggested for the role.
Olly said: “Hang on a minute so when they said ‘We’re gonna have Olly Murs on the show.’ Did they come to you first?”
Interrupting, Tom joked: “I said ‘Olly who?’”
