The Walking Dead ending after season 11

The Walking Dead is officially coming to an end.

The zombie series – starring Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon), Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) and Danai Gurira (Michonne) – was based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book, and has terrified fans for around a decade.

Bosses have now announced the show will be bowing out in 2022 – after an expanded 11th season on screens.

However, spin-offs and the anthology series will be continuing.

Scott Gimple, Chief Content Officer, confirmed the news in a press release, explaining: ‘It’s been ten years gone by; what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that.

‘What’s clear is that this show has been about the living, made by a passionate cast, team of writer/producers, producers, and crew, bringing to life the vision put forth by Robert Kirkman in his brilliant comic — and supported by the best fans in the world.

‘Happy to have a Carol & Daryl spin-off but truly sad the show will be over! I’m gonna miss it so bad! #TWD.’

‘End of a f**king era. What a run,’ a Twitter user simply added.

The horror series first graced our screens in 2010, focusing on a group of survivors after a zombie apocalypse – as they battled to regain control of their lives against the ‘walkers’, as well as other humans looking to do them harm.

We’re looking at you, Negan.

It premiered on 31 October, 2010, and sparked a number of spin-offs, as well as popular companion series, Fear The Walking Dead.
