How did Tom Jones meet Elvis Presley?

Tom Jones came face to face with Elvis Presley shortly after the Welsh singer shot to fame.

The two met in 1965 at the Paramount Studios where Elvis had been making movies.

At the time, Tom was becoming more well known with his hit song It's Not Unusual coming out at a similar time.

Tom had previously released With These Hands and Elvis was clearly a fan of the ballad as he sang it to Tom as they first met.

Were Tom and Elvis friends?

Following their first meeting, Tom and Elvis went on to be good friends.

The pair spent time in Las Vegas together and would bond over their love of gospel music.

They became so close that they went on a trip together to Hawaii in 1969.

What has Tom said about Elvis?

Whenever Tom has spoken about Elvis in that past it has always been positive.

While appearing on ITV's This Morning, Tom said that the new Elvis film captured the late singer's personality.

Talking about Austin Butler who played Elvis in the film, Tom said: "So they captured the essence – this fellow captured Elvis Presley.

"He doesn't look like him, you know right in the face, but the way he feels is the same.

"When I was looking at him I thought, 'He's coming across really strong."

Did Tom Jones date Priscilla Presley?

After Elvis' death in 1977 aged 42, Tom remained good friends with his friend's ex-wife Priscilla.

The two of them still stay in touch to this day and will occasionally meet up.

Dating rumours emerged when Tom's wife Linda passed away in 2016 from lung cancer.

However, Tom has denied that his and Priscilla have ever been anything more than friends.

Tom told People: "We're not dating, but we do go out to dinner. A friend of mine, Jeff Franklin, is a TV producer, and he's got a big house up in L.A.

"We'll go up there and have sing-a-longs and things like that. She's up there a lot, and so, we talk, and she's a very dear friend of mine, Priscilla.

"I mean, I met her in the '60s, and she's been a friend of mine ever since. But there is nothing romantic, no.
