What is Paul Rudd's 'Mac and Me' joke?

PAUL Rudd is an American actor known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ant-Man.

In March 2022, the star stopped by Conan O'Brien's podcast and revived one of his iconic jokes, and now fans want to know what it means.

What is Paul Rudd's 'Mac and Me' joke?

Over the years, Rudd, 52, has appeared alongside O'Brien, 58, several times and often does the same joke.

During the appearances, Rudd would give the late-night host a clip from a "new movie," but it would ultimately be the same scene from the 1988 film Mac and Me.

While O'Brien's show Conan may have ended, Rudd revived the gag during an appearance on his Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast.

Conan O’Brien said this about Friends star Lisa Kudrow

What to know about Paul Rudd’s absence from the Friends reunion

"It's been really kind of great because I don't normally get the opportunity to work on my own things like that," Rudd explained to the host.

"I'm usually a hired gun. But it's been fun, and I've been working on it and recording it with my friends."

When O'Brien asked Rudd to elaborate on the "new project" he was pitching, Rudd explained that it was a four-episode series then proceeded to play the classic clip.

"Oh for Christ's sake!" O'Brien said after the clip started playing. "Why? Why! You can't do this on a podcast! That's why I didn't see it coming! It's a visual joke!"

Why did Conan end?

O'Brien's late-night show was on TBS for over 11 years, but in May 2021, it was revealed that it was finally coming to an end.

Despite the news, he gave fans hope after revealing that it would eventually return on HBO Max.

"We are winding down our TBS show," O'Brien said at the time, via Newsweek. "The plan is to re-emerge on HBO Max sometime in the near future with what I think will be my fourth iteration of a program."

HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys added: "Conan's unique brand of energetic, relatable, and at times, absurdist comedy has charmed late-night audiences for nearly three decades. We can't wait to see what he and the rest of Team Coco will dream up for this brand new, variety format each week."

At this time, it is unclear when the show will head over the HBO Max.
