When is Glastonbury 2021?

GLASTONBURY was forced to cancel its 50th anniversary festival in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But will the music event be returning in all its glory in 2021? Here's what we know.

When is Glastonbury 2021?

Event organisers Michael and Emily Eavis have confirmed a full Glastonbury festival will not take place in 2021 due to coronavirus.

They wrote: "With great regret, we must announce that this year's Glastonbury Festival will not take place, and that this will be another enforced fallow year for us.

"In spite of our efforts to move Heaven and Earth, it has become clear that we simply will not be able to make the Festival happen this year. We are so sorry to let you all down.

"As with last year, we would like to offer all those who secured a ticket in October 2019 the opportunity to roll their £50 deposit over to next year, and guarantee the chance to buy a ticket for Glastonbury 2022.

"We are very appreciative of the faith and trust placed in us by those of you with deposits, and we are very confident we can deliver something really special for us all in 2022!

"We thank you for your incredible continued support and let’s look forward to better times ahead."

Replacing the festival this year will be a live stream on May 22.

Emily told BBC Radio 2 when the news broke: "It's going to be like the festival but without the people."

And an in-person festival may still be held in September after organisers had a one-day license approved for Worthy Farm.

Around 50,000 people are expected to attend the September event should it go ahead, with line-ups and ticket prices yet to be announced.

Who is performing at Glastonbury 2021?

Coldplay, Damon Albarn, Haim, Idles, Jorja Smith, Kano, Michael Kiwanuka and Wolf Alice are among the acts playing the live stream this year.

The one-day virtual event will be performed at Worthy Park, with acts appearing on the Pyramid Stage and other iconic platforms.

Organisers have also promised 'a number of unannounced surprise performances' will feature.

The five-hour long stream will be filmed in an uninterrupted style around the festival site and broadcast live to ticket holders.

How can I watch the Glastonbury live stream?

The European livestream will take place at 7pm BST on Saturday, May 22.

Tickets can be bought for £20 and proceeds from sales will go to to Oxfam, Greenpeace and WaterAid.

Funds will also help with the festival's belated return in 2022.
