Where Frasier cast is now – tragic death, heartbreaking losses and co-star bonds
Hollywood actor and Frasier star Kelsey Grammar is 67 years old today (February 21).
The actor, who was born on February 21, 1955, recently delighted fans when he announced that a reboot of popular TV series Frasier was in the works.
He told Collider: "We think we’re going to get most of the actors back, I’m certainly hopeful that we will, and I’m fairly confident that they’ll come back…
"We don’t actually have a date when we’re going to start filming. We’re still kind of breaking the story a little bit, we’re doing a polish now."
To celebrate Kelsey Grammar's birthday and the possible return of Frasier, Daily Star takes a look at where the stars of the hit comedy series are now.
Kelsey Grammar (Frasier Crane)
One of Kelsey Grammar's most famous roles was as radio psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane – a character he originally played in another hit sitcom – Cheers.
However, he is just as famous for voicing Bart Simpson's nemesis Sideshow Bob in The Simpsons, as he is for playing Frasier Crane – even winning an Emmy award for his work in the episode, The Italian Bob.
From there Kelsey has not left our TV screens, starring in hit TV series and Hollywood films including X-Men: The Last Stand, Hank, Boss, 30 Rock, Toy Story 2 and Fame.
As well as directing and producing, he is also due to star in a number of films currently in production including Jesus Revolution, as well as reprising his role as Dr Frasier Crane in a new Frasier TV series.
Sadly away from the limelight, Kelsey has suffered a number of heartbreaking losses, including the death of his father when he was 13 years old, and the deaths of his two half-brothers in a scuba diving accident.
Kelsey's sister was also murdered in 1975 when she was 18 years old, with Vanity Fair reporting that in 2009, Kelsey wrote to the parole board of the prison where the man convicted of his sister's murder was appealing for his release, saying: "I miss her in my bones.
"I was her big brother. I was supposed to protect her — I could not … It very nearly destroyed me."
In his personal life, Kelsey also named his eldest daughter Spencer Karen Grammar after his sister.
Spencer has since gone on to follow in her father's footsteps, appearing in TV series including Greek and Rick And Morty.
Kelsey also has three younger children and has been married four times – first to Doreen Alderman from 1982 to 1990, then to Leigh Anne Csuhany from 1992 to 1993.
He was later married to Real Housewives of Beverely Hills star Camille Meyer for over 14 years from from 1997 to 2011, before marrying Kayte Walsh in 2011.
David Hyde Pierce (Niles Crane)
At the heart of Frasier was the relationship between Dr Crane and his brother Niles, played by David Hyde Pierce.
He and Kelsey Grammar even played brothers in The Simpsons, when David made a guest cameo as Sideshow Bob's brother Cecil.
Like his Frasier co-star, David has gone on to appear in hit TV series and films including Disney's A Bug's Life, Hellboy, The Good Wife, The Perfect Host and Down With Love.
He is also due to star in TV series Julia and film, The Georgetown Project, which are both currently in post-production.
Despite talk of the Frasier reboot however, the actor previously told Vulture that he would not be part of it, saying: "No. And I don’t think they would want one."
Away from acting, David is also a spokesperson for the Alzheimer's Association, and has been raising money for a cure for the disease, following the death of his grandfather.
Speaking about the affect the disease had on his grandfather, he told The New York Post: "My grandfather’s personality really changed," adding that he went from not being able to play chess to living in a nursing home.
In his personal life, the actor has also been married to his husband Brian Hargrove since 2008.
Jane Leeves (Daphne Moon)
Jane Leeves starred as the love of Niles Crane's life, Daphne Moon, after landing her first acting roles in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life and as a tourist in David Lee Roth's music video for California Girls.
However Frasier gave the actress her breakthrough role, earning her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Since then, Jane has primarily lent her voice to animated film and TV work including as Mrs Lady Bug in James And The Giant Peach, Eenie in Garfield: A Tale Of Two Kitties and various characters in Disney series Phineas and Ferb.
She has also had leading roles as Joy Scroggs in Hot In Cleveland and currently plays Kitt Voss in TV series The Resident.
However Jane has kept sweet bonds with her Frasier co-stars in the family, as David Hyde Pierce and the late John Mahony are the godparents of her son, Finn.
In her personal life, Jane has been married to TV executive Marshall Coben since 1996 and they have two children called Finn and Isabella.
Despite a Frasier reboot being announced last year, Jane has also stated that she would not be leaving The Resident to star in the TV series, telling Entertainment Weekly: "I have no idea [about the reboot], but I won't be leaving The Resident to do that if it happens.
"There's a lot of pieces that have to come together to make [the revival] happen."
John Mahoney (Martin Crane)
John Mahoney played Martin Crane, the sports loving father of Frasier and Niles, and beloved owner of dog Eddie.
With his quick witted humour and honesty, he became one of the series' fan favourite characters – winning a Screen Actor's Guild Award and being nominated for two Primetime Emmys and two Golden Globe Awards in the process.
However, the Blackpool born actor originally served in the army, before taking up acting at the age of 40 years old, following an invitation by actor John Malkovich to join the new Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
He became a beloved theatre actor, as well as lending his voice to animated films including Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Antz and The Iron Giant, and starring in films such as Say Anything.
However, John died at the age of 78 years old on February 4, 2018, after being diagnosed with cancer.
Tributes poured in from fans and stars from the world of entertainment, including Kelsey Grammar who tweeted a photograph of him hugging John, captioned: "He was my father. I loved him."
Roz Doyle actress Peri Gilpin also shared a video of John singing at her wedding, with the caption: "Watch Moonstruck, Say Anything and/or Frasier or anything you can with him in it and raise a glass to John. Remember him well."
Peri Gilpin (Roz Doyle)
Peri Gilpin starred as Dr Frasier Crane's witty and often outspoken colleague Roz Doyle.
It is one of Peri's most famous roles and since then, the actress has gone on to star in TV programmes including Hot in Cleveland, opposite Frasier co-star Jane Leeves.
She and Jane are close friends, with Peri even asking Jane to be godmother to her children.
Away from the limelight, Peri has been married to painter Christian Vincent since 1999 and they have twins together, who were born in 2004.
Most recently Peri has also starred in TV series including Scorpion and Mrs Robinson, as well as films We Broke Up and The Frat Haze in 2021.
She has also stated that a reunion for the Frasier reboot could happen, telling Metro: "[A reunion] is possible. Definitely. There is a lot of talk about it.
"I do think there’s something going on, but I don’t know exactly what it is or whether it will actually happen."
