Who is Ash in EastEnders and what is she hiding?
Iqra Ahmed (Priya Davdra) has had a challenging couple of months in EastEnders, having recently come out to her grandparents by introducing them to her girlfriend.
Having initially told sister Habiba (Rukku Nahar) that she was in a relationship with a woman, she went on to reveal her sexuality to the rest of the family – part of a trailblazing LGBTQ+ storyline for the soap.
However things might not progress quite as smoothly in the wake of some pretty furtive behaviour from her girlfriend Ash of late.
Just who is she – and what secrets is she keeping from Iqra?
Here’s what you need to know…
Who is Ash in EastEnders?
Ash was revealed in August to be Iqra’s girlfriend, whom she introduced to Habiba and her grandparents after revealing to her sister she was in a relationship with a woman.
The character is played by 25-year-old Gurlaine Kaur Garcha, an actress who has also worked as a researcher on The Graham Norton Show and is a European Taekwondo champion.
Iqra came out to her sister after Adam Bateman (Stephen Rahman-Hughes) confronted her over mysterious text messages – leading her to reveal her secret to her sister following the family’s Eid celebration.
Although Ash was only recently introduced to the soap, Iqra told Habiba that she had been seeing her for a year.
What is Ash hiding in EastEnders?
While Ash might be in a long-term relationship with Iqra, it’s clear that she has been keeping secrets from her – including hiding her family from her and making furtive phone calls.
It’s not been revealed exactly what she’s hiding though – so we’ll just have to keep watching to find out how that one pans out.
Priya Davdra – who plays Iqra on the soap – recently teased the possibility of drama between the couple, telling metro.co.uk at the Inside Soap awards earlier this month: ‘There’s loads of layers to Iqra. There’s stuff coming up but you’ll have to wait and see.’
And as to the future of the pair’s romance as the festive season looms she added: ‘I would like to be kissing under the mistletoe but it is EastEnders so you never know.’
EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays on BBC One at 8pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm.
