GOOD Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has opened up in her second documentary about her husband, Caring For Derek.

Derek, a former lobbyist caught Covid in March 2020 and was put into an induced coma by doctors – Kate revealed he would have died if he was left unaided without medical attention.

Who is Kate Garraway's husband Derek Draper?

Derek Draper, 54, is a PR and former political adviser from Chorley, Lancashire.

He was a political aide to former Labour cabinet minister Peter Mandelson, and was at the centre of the scandal known as "Lobbygate" in 1998.

Following this, he retrained as a psychotherapist and spent three years in California obtaining his degree.

In the late 90s, he worked as the Political Editor of the Modern Review, was briefly a columnist for the Daily Express and presented on TalkRADIO UK.

In 2009 he became the founder and editor of the blog LabourList.

But stepped down as editor after another scandal involving leaked emails.

After 35 years, Draper decided to revoke his membership with the Labour Party on August 23, 2019.

He is a published author and has written books such as Blair's 100 Days and Life Support.

He has a new book called The Psychology of Everyday Life: 50 Bite-Size Insights for Thriving in the Modern World, which is set to be released in June 2020.

In March 2020 he was taken into hospital suffering from coronavirus and was there for more than a year.

But in April 2021 it was announced that Derek had returned home, after experts decided that he could finally leave hospital.

Derek has now been taken off all machines and breathing apparatus, but he will still have to receive round-the-clock care and his family has been told that he still faces a “long and gruelling” fight to full health.

When did Kate Garraway marry Derek Draper?

Kate Garraway married Derek Draper in 2005 in Camden, London.

Garraway was previously married to former Meridian boss Ian Rumsey from 1998 to 2002.

Recently, the Good Morning Britain host spoke openly of her husband's recovery from the debilitating condition and says she had felt terribly lonely.

Speaking of the issue, she said: "I think one of the worst things is the terrible loneliness… from having him here but not here. It's really indescribable. It's just so hard. I can sort of see him, but he's absent – and you just feel very much on your own, all the time."

She also confessed: "I still hope we’ll have a happy ending, but ultimately it just feels unsustainable."

How many children do Kate Garraway and Derek Draper have?

Derek and Kate have two children.

The couple have a 17-year-old daughter called Darcey, who was born on March 10, 2006.

They also have an 12-year-old son called William, known as 'Billy', who was born on July 28, 2009.

Both children occasionally appear on Kate's Instagram feed, where she has over 1 million followers.
