Who is the new Ellis actor in Emmerdale and why has the actor changed?
Ellis Chapman is coming back to Emmerdale tonight with a new face after Asan N’Jie’s departure from the soap.
Ellis left Emmerdale off-screen, and the last time we saw him, he was working with his dad at the outdoor pursuit centre.
In scenes tonight, the character will return with a new face just in time come between Al (Michael Wildman) and Billy (Jay Kontzle) when they butt heads yet again.
Ahead of Ellis’ return to Emmerdale tonight, here’s a closer look at the new actor who’s playing him and why Asan left the soap in the first place.
Who is the new Ellis actor in Emmerdale?
Aaron Anthony is the actor who has taken over as Ellis Chapman on Emmerdale.
You might recognise him as Adam from Sky’s TV show Delicious, which he appeared in from 2017 until 2019.
He has also appeared in Holby City as Hector Kidd in 2015, and in Doctors as Nathan Westwood from 2017 until 2018.
In the future, Aaron is set to appear in Netflix’s upcoming series Behind Her Eyes.
He’s also acted in a number of theatre productions including the West End production of Shakespeare in Love and Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare’s Globe.
Aaron graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional Acting from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2013.
Speaking about joining the soap, Aaron said: ‘Emmerdale is a cracking show with a brilliant cast that I’m over the moon to now be a part of. I know Ellis is a well loved character and I’m looking forward to continuing his journey and all that’s in store for him.’
Aaron took over the role of Ellis after Asan was sacked from Emmerdale back in September following an altercation with Hollyoaks’ Jamie Lomas at the TV Choice Awards in which Asan threatened Jamie.
ITV released a statement at the time which read: ‘Emmerdale suspended Asan N’Jie yesterday pending further investigation into an incident at a central London hotel on Monday night.
‘ITV executives have met with him this morning and as a consequence Asan’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.’
After the incident, Asan apologised by saying: ‘My behaviour at the TV Choice Awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character.
‘I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected especially Jamie Lomas, the whole Emmerdale team, our audience, ITV, my family, and the organisers of the TV Choice Awards. I am devastated, and accept full responsibility for my actions and I am determined to learn from this.’
Emmerdale is next on tonight at 7pm on ITV.
