Whoops! Meghan McCain Slams 'Game of Thrones' Finale, Then Spoils It for 'View' Cohost
“I assumed every diehard fan had watched! My bad,” says McCain, after dropping some spoilers on “The View.”
SPOILER WARNING: If you haven’t watched the finale of "Game of Thrones," stop reading now … and get off the internet for the rest of the day while you’re at it!
While everybody and their mom have been openly discussing every last detail of Sunday night’s grand finale of "Game of Thrones," Meghan McCain learned there are still some corners of the world where spoilers are not welcome. Namely, her morning show.
The divisive conclusion of the HBO series was one of the Hot Topics of the morning on "The View" and Meghan wasted no time revealing the answer to the episode’s biggest question: who took the throne?
"I spent 8 years of my life watching this and it was a horrible ending," she exclaimed. "Horrible. Bran is the worst. He didn’t do anything and now he gets to rule? It should have been the Mother of Dragons!"
Sunny Hostin, however, was not prepared for that bomb to drop, yelling, "Oh, I’m only on Season 4!" The show went into chaos, with Whoopi Goldberg faking a walkout as McCain defended entering spoiler territory.
"It’s all over the internet! I’m sorry everyone, it’s all over the internet!" she shouted. "As a dedicated fan who watched live last night, like everyone’s supposed to, it was terrible. I was so disappointed. I’m sorry you guys are so triggered by me telling the ending."
She then turned her attention towards some particularly angry audience members, telling them, "You’re genuinely upset. Why is this a Hot Topic then if I’m not supposed to talk about it?!"
"It’s a huge show, I think shows should be watched in real time. It was a terrible ending, I was very disappointed," she continued, before shifting blame to her show’s producers. "What were we supposed to talk about? So we’re clear, I wasn’t told no spoilers, I wasn’t told I couldn’t say anything. Apparently I’m going to get the wrath of the internet when I leave. Why is this a Hot Topic then?!"
The conversation was all in good fun, but McCain still apologized after the show aired. "I’m so sorry for the #GOT spoilers on the show today! I assumed every diehard fan had watched! My bad. Don’t watch west coast if you don’t want a spoiler."
We’ve got McCain’s back on this one though. "Thrones" is the biggest thing on TV right now — if you’re not up to date, it’s your own damn fault at this point!
During the conversation, Goldberg also revealed why she stopped watching the show years ago.
"The Red Wedding ended it for me," said Whoopi. "I was like, what the f … y’all just killed, what?! I have not been able to go back. I keep trying, every time I see it I get pissed off."
