ICU doctor Steve James joined Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley on Good Morning Britain as he detailed why he didn’t have the coronavirus vaccine. His stance left Dr Hillary Jones and Madeley infuriated with many viewers also angered he was being given airtime.

Madeley quizzed the GP over why he refused to get the vaccine, with James explaining: “I am not anti-vaxx as I have seen a great benefit from the vaccine.

“There’s been a huge reduction in the number of seriously ill patients that have come into hospital.

“And vaccination has certainly been the largest contribution to that.”

“So why did you say that to Javid?” Madeley interrupted.

James hit back: “The difference between me giving my own personal opinion about why I wouldn’t have the vaccine, and whether vaccines in general are good.

“As a doctor I am not anti-surgery, it doesn’t mean surgery is what I need to have.

“So, for a population it would be good to offer certain treatments, it doesn’t mean that everybody needs to have those treatments.”

Pushing the GP further, Madeley asked: “So why haven’t you been vaccinated?”

The doctor explained: “I am a fit and well man. I am not elderly.

“I was exposed to Covid on multiple occasions in the hospital settings and I wasn’t getting sick.

“And I thought, well the vaccines are out there now. They will go to the elderly and the vulnerable.”

James’ comments infuriated many of those tuning into Good Morning Britain, who took to Twitter to express their own thoughts.

Will raged: “Of course, he’s prepared to lose his job, he’ll enter the private health sector, find a loophole and end up on more money than the NHS offer.”

User Pickle commented: “This doctor seems to be contradicting himself.”

While Josephine added: “Dr Steven James on #GMB talking about “being a voice” for people. What about the patients who have had no choice but to be treated by him and therefore exposed to risk? Disgraceful.”

“This Dr is so selfish. Did he refuse to have the other vaccines that are insisted on for health professionals?” Jo asked.

However, some viewers did step in to defend the doctor’s decision, with Tom tweeting: “There is nothing right about mandatory vaccines. They have no place in a civilised, liberal society. It should always be a choice.”

Colin said: “This Doctor is a hero, truth-teller, speaks common sense.”

“Well said, Dr James!! So bias GMB, the vaccine isn’t needed for healthy ppl! Gov has caused this not the docs!!” Gemma praised. (Sic)
